“Pirates of the Caribbean” started out quite strongly, and it quickly became a household name as people of all ages enjoyed the film, but then things took a slightly more negative turn with the next installments in the franchise that weren’t taken so well by most fans. The sequels were a bit of a hit-and-miss story for most people, and now it looks like the producers have really taken it to heart to revive the series and bring it back to people’s attentions with the latest installment.
Not much is known about “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales”, the fifth entry in the franchise, but it’s expected to come with various changes that are supposed to revive interest in the films and help people remember why they enjoyed the originals so much in the first place. That might not be a very easy task in light of some of the more recent changes that the franchise has seen in its setup, but according to most critics, it’s definitely doable.
People still remember “Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides”, and it put quite a dent in the popularity of the franchise, not to mention its box office performance. Because of this, the producers are now reportedly treading very carefully and doing their best to avoid repeating their mistakes from the original film.
Now, production on the new film is apparently finished and has been for at least a couple of months, but the studio isn’t planning on bringing it to the market anytime soon. In fact, they’re allegedly looking at a 2017 release date as the earliest possibility, and while we don’t know why they want to delay the film that long, there are several possibilities that all make sense.
On one hand, the film might be in need of some serious post-production, and that wouldn’t be strange to think about a franchise like “Pirates of the Caribbean” which doesn’t take it easy on the special effects. In fact, it’s pretty certain that this is at least a major contributing factor to the release schedule, if not the primary reason.
On the other, it’s also possible that the producers want to let the “hype” around the last film die down even further before bringing out a sequel. Many people still remember the disappointment that the fourth installment gave them, and the producers would be smart to postpone the release of the sequel until those discussions are gone completely.
That way they’ll be able to get their reviews based on a fresh, uninfluenced look on the new film, instead of having people reviewing it as “yet another” sequel to the franchise. This is actually not a rare occurrence for some film franchises and it’s pretty common for people to judge a new installment based on the way they remember a previous one. And “Pirates of the Caribbean” definitely won’t deserve that if the new film has actually been done in a good way that revives people’s interest properly.
Some are claiming that the producers are actually taking things completely to the roots – that is, they’re trying to give this film the kind of success and attention that the very first entry in the franchise had, and they want to relive the old glory days of the original “Pirates of the Caribbean”. And while that’s certainly a good goal, some have been questioning the studio’s ability to actually pull that off.
