Iconic music artist Phil Collins is on a comeback trail but his return is coming with a physical cost for him.
Reports have it that in order to get in shape for his upcoming spring tour that begins in London in the first week of June, Phil Collins is reportedly undergoing a controversial and painful electroshock therapy in a bid to overcome problems with his spine, neck, and arm, reports Tricities Livewire Network.
Electroshock therapy is a painful treatment that sends waves of electrical current through the body.
Phil Collins suffered nerve damage from years of intense drumming and a surgery has left his right foot numb. Before going on solo, he was a drummer of the rock band Genesis.
Apparently, the music artist is hoping to get back behind a drum in his upcoming June tour, officially titled “Not Dead Yet,” notes WOGL.
Working out in the gym as well
In addition to his electrotherapy sessions, Phil Collins is reportedly spending two hours a day in the gym in order to be physically fit as well for his tour.
In a recent interview, Collins admitted that he had a back surgery that went well but it left his right foot numb which was due to nerve damage.
He explained that it has got to regenerate because the nerve between the foot and the back is quite a long distance. He added that he is not that tall but it is a long enough distance for about a millimeter a week to regenerate so he had to work on it on a daily basis.
He said that the problem is on his elbow down to his wrist and palm. Because of such problem, he can’t play drums.
The “Against All Odds” singer said that although he plays drums on the Motown record, he had to tape the sticks to his hand because he did not have any strength to hold the sticks and his wrist.
Collins also disclosed that he is also doing water therapy now and will be back doing physiotherapy again. He added that he will nudge it along a bit with electroshock things, which means that he will be having tougher roads ahead on course to his spring concert tour.
The physical problems of Phil Collins started in 2004. He said back then that the nerve damage was a by-product of a vertebrae damage.
Eager to see Collins perform
Not only is Phil Collins excited for his comeback performance, his fans are also very eager to see him perform, as his five-night stint at the Royal Albert Hall sold out in just 11 minutes.
He has said that after his set of concerts this year, he hopes to add some dates in 2018, but that all depends on his health.
In a recent interview with Radio 2’s Johnnie Walker, Phil Collins was quoted as saying that there might be some more performance from him.
However, he cautioned expectations when he also added that it is more of a question of what effect it takes on him physically as he is no longer a man of his age as Tony Hancock used to say, so he can’t just jump back on the bus, but do it in a way that is sensible.
Collins said that he has to keep reminding himself that he is old school and when he goes away on tour, it is like going away to war. He said that he does not know when he will come back.
He also said that life does not have to be like that anymore and he won’t put himself through that now.
Phil Collins will be performing at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England from June 4 to 9 with the exception of June 6, his rest day.
