‘PES 2016’ Overwhelms ‘FIFA 16’ at Gamescom 2015; Determined to Be the Best Football Video Game Ever

Konami was not just hyping or making an overstatement when it said previously that it wants the latest iteration of its football simulation video game “Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) 2016” to become the best video game ever.

Apparently, the Japanese game developer’s pronouncement really has some teeth on it and it became evident when the gameplay demo of “PES 2016” was shown during the Gamescom 2015 held on August 5 to 9 at Cologne, Germany.

The gameplay demo was so outstanding that it has actually overwhelmed its direct competition “FIFA 16” from EA Sports whose trailer was also featured in the event, which many considered was quite underwhelming.

After the Gamescom 2015, Konami has already made available the “PES 2016” gameplay demo for PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. While many gamers and critics were skeptical about Konami’s initial pronouncements about “PES 2016” but when the game demo was showcased at Gamescom 2015, it made believers out of cynics, skeptics, and even doubters, details Moviepilot.

The outlet even cited that “PES 2016” destroyed “FIFA 16” up front because its gameplay style really made players see that the former was the better and more enjoyable game.

Great soccer experience

Both football simulation video games will be released next month and it would be interesting to see if “PES 2016” would finally arrest the domination that “FIFA” video games has on its franchise over the last couple of years.

Capitalizing on the features of the next-generation gaming consoles, “PES 2016” will look even more realistic than ever before, with improve ball physics and collision system, making the soccer experience great and excellent visually, notes the Latin Post.

Accordingly, the collision system will result to different outcomes every time players run into each other and it will be dependent on various factors including player strength. So when the ball is up in the air and two players are battling for it, there will be an aerial strength battle between the two players. Gamers need to use the left stick to try to win the ball.

The offensive player with the ball shall also have better reactions when he encounters a defender. He will either dribble past the defender or he will make a fake in order to dodge and get past the defense.

Determined to become the best

“PES 2016” is determined to become the best football and soccer video game ever when it hits the gaming platforms in September, consistent with the goal of its game developer Konami Productions.

Adam Bhatti, the product manager for the PES series, admitted that the football series is no longer as popular as it was before during the early 2000s and Konami intends to reclaim its reputation.

From a game that everyone played, the PES football video game series became the video game that everyone forgot about, explains Bhatti.

He said that Konami wants to make “PES 2016” the video game that everyone will play or everyone played again several months or years after its official release.

Konami knows that its PES series has been overwhelmed in recent years by its competitor, the FIFA series of EA Sports. Bhatti, however, said that Konami finally got the break it needed for the PES series to relive its glory days with the successful release of the“PES 2015” last year.

“PES 2015’ won several game awards last year and “PES 2016” intends to build on its predecessor’s success to bring back the video game fans that the franchise has lost to the competition over the last seven to eight years.

  1. “Bhatti admitted that Konami has made a lot of mistakes with the PES series but instead of taking it on a negative context, the company took it as an opportunity to learn from it.”

So refreshing to see a producer admit this about their product. It’s something that really turned me off EA because no matter how much we moaned they still wouldn’t acknowledge some basic game issues.

    I’m a football tragic and buy both Fifa & PES every year no matter what since I was a kid. I spend a few weeks playing each and then the one that sticks out I stick with throughout the rest of the year. I’ve been doing this for years and it’s surprising that I am always easily able to identify a clear winner each year. Here have been my picks over the years;

    1992 – 1994 – Super Soccer/Striker [SNES]
1995 – 1998 – International Super Star Soccer (Deluxe) [SNES]
    1998 – 1999 – International Super Star Soccer 64 [N64]
    2000 – 2008 – PES 1 through to PES 2008 [PS2/PC]
    2009 – 2014 – Fifa 09 through to Fifa 14 [PS3 & PC]
    2015 – PES 2015 [PS4/PC]
2016 – TBD (but seriously looks like PES once again)

Mind you my criteria for determining which I favour might be totally different to you. All I focus on is career mode/master league. I never play online and I never play ultimate team. I can’t bring myself to create a make believe team, I just want to drive my boyhood club as far as they can.

The only factor I care about is gameplay.

    Cheers for this article.

  2. I miss the old days of Winning Eleven. But the truth is really liked Winning Eleven 6-8 because I had a modded PS2 and would get a bunch of modded Winnings with all the uniforms and correct names for players/teams. I still can’t stand that they don’t get the licenses like EA Sports.

    1. man, i also do miss the old winning eleven dayz :) back in the dayz of winning eleven- 11 7, 8,9 25 & 37. (25 being my favourite)…wel, those are just a few that i enjoyd playing

  3. hopefully Fifa wakes up and dominates again as the only thing I hated about PES was there were HALF an official licence job.

Unless PES gets the whole licence too then I wouldn’t care as I was a old school PES player lol.

  4. Pes 16 will be the best football simulating game. fIfa have only looked to improve gameplay but pes have improved all facets of the game (weather, collision etc) which adds to realism and dynamic gameplay. After all, dont gamers strive for realism? Forever Pes!!!
