Fans of “Person of Interest” have been getting one disappointing announcement after another, and it looks like we definitely aren’t going to see any stories involving the mysterious AI. After it was revealed that the show won’t be getting a sixth season – or at least that’s the situation at the moment – there were some rumors that we might at least see a spin-off based on the same premise.
Many people who enjoyed “Person of Interest” immediately jumped on the idea, however it was recently confirmed that this isn’t planned either. So, those who want to see more of the same story will just have to look elsewhere, as the people behind “Person of Interest” are definitely not expanding their story.
It’s a shame, as “Person of Interest” had a great premise and many critics agreed that the show could easily be expanded in other directions, exploring the stories of other characters in more detail. It had a rich world full of surprised, and it would not have been hard to adapt it to a slightly different premise.
Sadly, this isn’t going to happen, at least for now. We wouldn’t be surprised if there are still some plans to continue the show (either its main storyline or an alternate one) in the near future, but for now the producers apparently have other plans.
It’s actually surprising that they’ve decided to go this way, as there was clearly a lot of interest in the production from its fans, as indicated by a recent petition that got a lot of attention. Despite the efforts of dedicated followers, the people behind the show still decided to pull the plug, so we suspect that there might be some internal politics at play here.
It wouldn’t be the first time an otherwise successful production has suffered due to a lack of understanding behind the scenes, and while it’s definitely not fun for fans, there’s not much they can do but accept the situation and move on.
On the bright side, at least we’ve seen some interesting takes on the hacker theme from other shows on TV lately. “Mr. Robot” managed to provide a fresh look at the same premise, and it looks like more and more people are paying attention to shows of this kind.
We’ve also seen some less successful attempts to capitalize on the hacker craze, but at least there is healthy competition among producers right now, and this is a good situation for fans themselves. It’s also interesting to follow the movie scene for a similar reason.
“Person of Interest” ran into some issues along the way however, and the producers had to put a lot of work into recovering the show after they miscalculated some of their moves with it. For example, the character of Root was highly controversial among many fans. It took a while to see more clearly what the producers had in mind with that part of the storyline, and by that time some fans had already given up on the show as a whole.
This period, as well as several other mistakes along the way, made the show suffer in its ratings and viewer numbers. The final season enjoyed a lot of attention and it looked like many fans had chosen to come back, but it was clear that the tone in discussions was already different, and some had seemingly lost faith in the producers’ vision.
