CBS’ sci-fi crime drama “Person of Interest” may be airing its last season already. This news comes straight from the show’s executive producer, J.J. Abrams.
Considering the show was renewed for a fifth season with just 13 episodes, compared to the previous seasons containing 22 episodes each, a possible cancellation is really on the wings for the CBS crime drama TV series.
This strategy is seemingly echoed with the network’s now-defunct police procedural drama “The Mentalist,” which ended after seven seasons in February last year.
Also, when the show concluded its fourth season, viewers have been confronted with issues of cancellation but was debunked when the show made it out of the network’s chopping board.
Speaking to the press at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Pasadena, California on January 9, Abrams says that he thinks Season 5 is the final season for “Person of Interest.”
Abrams praised Nolan and co-executive producer Greg Plageman for their work on the show and revealed that the two are done wrapping up the episodes slated to air for the current season.
Abrams adds that the only heartbreak that comes with the possible cancellation is how much good story there was to come if it were allowed to continue on.
He says that they have made a great fifth season that could serve as the series finale to satisfy the fans of the show.
The showrunner says that CBS still hasn’t given a premiere date for the fifth season, but he is confident that the season will see the light of day.
It’s important to note that no official cancellation has been made by the network regarding the series although Abrams has already expressed his sadness over the show’s fate.
He did went on to say that it was already a miracle that the show could last five seasons long and that is something the whole cast and crew are proud and grateful for.
In May last year, Deadline reported that “Person of Interest,” along with other CBS shows such as “2 Broke Girls,” “The Odd Couple,” and “Mike & Molly” had been left out of the network’s fall schedule line-up.
Interestingly, the show wasn’t in the network’s winter schedule as well which bothered fans. According to Christian Post, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler did not confirm yet that the series is ending, but she said that it was a possibility.
Newly-appointed CBS President Glenn Geller recently promised that the network will air the sci-fi crime drama this spring.
The network president says that writers have penned a terrific season and that it will be a treat to fans.
Speaking to the press on January 12, Geller has debunked rumors that the show might be saved for the off-season line-up. “Limitless” has currently taken over the timeslot of “Person of Interest.”
Another great news Geller gave for “Person of Interest” fans is the possible return of Sarah Shahi.
The 36-year-old actress plays Sameen Shaw in the TV series, a government assassin who worked for Special Counsel, but now is an ally of Jim Caviezel’s Reese and Michael Emerson’s Finch.
Shahi went on maternity leave in Season 4. Speaking to Zap2it, Geller says that fans can look forward to her return with great gusto. He adds that she’s an amazing actress and that the show would love to have her back.
When pressed for more details, Geller played coy and jokingly said that creator Nolan and executive producer Plageman might kill him if he reveals more spoilers.
Albeit a specific premiere date, Crossmap has learned some of the episode titles for the show.
The season premiere is entitled “B.S.O.D.” while episode 2 is titled “SNAFU.” The third episode is entitled “Truth Be Told” and the fourth episode is titled “Shotseeker.”
