The fifth and final season of the American science-fiction thriller drama TV series “Person of Interest” premiered on CBS on May 2 via an explosive debut episode and the upcoming second episode will continue on its high octane mode on May 9.
It can be recalled that during the Season 5 premiere episode, the Samaritans attempted to kill Finch, played by Michael Emerson, John Reese, played by Jim Caviezel, and Root, played by Amy Acker.
They were able to escape with a compacted Machine inside a protective briefcase, details Movie News Guide.
In the upcoming second episode, entitled “SNAFU,” the team shall be able to successfully save the Machine from the Samaritans.
However during the rebuilding of the Machine, the trio will encounter a major issue as they discovered a glitch in its program, which tags Finch and Root as dangers to the device. The Machine shall also pose a danger to people not related to any crimes at all.
Apparently, the glitch will be discovered during the reboot of the Machine even as Finch and Root work on fixing it considering that it seemed to have been reprogrammed to treat them as threats.
The episode will actually feature the fight between Finch and Root versus the Machine, which is sure to excite fans and viewers of “Person of Interest.”
Character development for Root
The fifth season of “Person of Interest” shall display more character development for Root, whose real name in the TV series is Samantha Groves.
She is the Machine’s main user and operator so if there is anybody who can fix the computer system, it is no other than Root.
During the ComicCon event held recently, actress Amy Acker confirmed that the fifth and final season of “Person of Interest” will focus on the relationship of Root and Sameen Shaw, played by Sarah Shahi.
Shahi also confirmed during the same event that her character shall be more dynamic in Season 5 of “Person of Interest.”
Not-so-happy ending
Season 5 of “Person of Interest” has been shortened to make up for only 13 episodes and according to co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan, the TV series shall have a not-so-happy ending.
The first four seasons of “Person of Interest” saw the show having 22 episodes apiece. The storylines for Season 5 have apparently been condensed to fit into the 13 episodes.
Meanwhile, TV Line has hinted that the second episode of “Person of Interest” Season 5 shall have a hilarious opening scene where two characters would be mimicking each other.
Season 5 is going to be the final season for “Person of Interest” and showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman made the announcement about it as early as March.
Amid the announcement from the showrunners, some fans of the show are still hoping that “Person of Interest” can still be rescued by another network. However, they are not doing anything about it for now like initiating a signature campaign.
The showrunners said in a recent interview that as life has come to imitate the TV series, it has been a great privilege on their parts to work on a show for the past five seasons.
They promised the show’s fans that the final chapter of “Person of Interest” would be a thrilling experience.
Instead of getting disappointed with the decision of the network to end the series after Season 5, showrunners Nolan and Plageman expressed elation over the matter. It certainly is better to be given the opportunity to wrap up the series rather than end with a cliffhanger, whose answer may or may never be known by the viewers.
