According to critics, it could be a strategy on the part of the network to boost its summer programming especially with the cancellation of “Extant” and “Under the Dome.” It is likely to join “Zoo” in the network’s programming which is the only established scripted series on CBS. The fact that it was also taken in by Netflix means that it has a good following.
With “Person of Interest” showing during summer, it may actually benefit from lesser competition and perhaps revived its sagging ratings.
Not too long ago, the TV series was one of the most-watched shows on the small screen. But with lower demo ratings, the high cost of filming in New York City, and that fact that it comes from an outside studio, CBS certainly has the right to think and plan well its future.

Amy Acker, in a recent interview, said that Root is still the No. 1 champion of The Machine. So she is trying to convince Harold that they should make some modifications while rebuilding her.

This article refers to the ratings been low but the truth is the show is not owned by cbs which is the primary problem. The show was higher in the ratings than quite a few other cbs shows which were picked up for full seasons. Also last seasons ratings for the show are better than some of cbs new shows of the season which are considered hits.
This show is easily the best TV show I have ever watched so far, and I have watched a lot of them ! Every episode is captivating and the story is so well thought out, I have no words to describe how good this show is.
I am sad to hear season 5 will be the last, but every good thing must come to an end, and what a last season so far ! Hopefuly the ending will be as good as the rest of the show.
