Despite the clamor of many fans of the horror drama series “Penny Dreadful” on Showtime for a Season 4, it seems unlikely to happen at this point.
During the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Showtime CEO David Nevins confirmed that there will be no fourth season for “Penny Dreadful” starring Eva Green.
The confirmation from the Showtime top honcho also doused cold water on the ‘Save Penny Dreadful’ online petition that has been initiated at Change.org.
The petition has also asked the web streaming service network, Netflix, to pick up “Penny Dreadful” for Season 4 and have them produce one or more seasons from it.
The petitioners state that such a show of high-quality, original plot, and a brilliant universe of characters deserved to be saved, details the MNR Daily.
The online petition has already drawn 13,437 signatures and is very close to its target of 15,000 online petitioners.
It’s really over
Despite the petition and fan clamor, series creator John Logan has said that it is really over for “Penny Dreadful.”
He explained that when a ‘The End’ was put after the Season 3 finale aired in June, it was meant to be what it was.
Logan said that “Penny Dreadful” was all about Vanessa Ives, the character played by Eva Green, and how she has lost her faith in God and recovered it back towards the end with her death.
Even Eva Green said on social media recently that she can absolutely confirm that “Penny Dreadful” is really over and it does not just apply to her character but the rest of the cast too including Sir Malcolm Murray, played by Timothy Dalton, Ethan Chandler, played by Josh Hartnett, and the rest.
The producers also believe that the series is already done telling its story and there is no point for “Penny Dreadful” to remain on the air. While they appreciate the concern and efforts of the fans to push for the extension of the TV series because of its reported impressive ratings, the storyline has already met its endpoint and extending it beyond would be a drag, notes the Ecumenical News.
Logan further explained that “Penny Dreadful” has always been meant to run for a short time only as he draws a comparison between the series to poems, saying that some poems are meant to be short haikus, while others are meant to be long enormous epics. “Penny Dreadful,” on the other hand, has always been meant to be a sonnet, Logan pointed out.
Not up to a spin-off series either
Despite the rumors about the possible revival of “Penny Dreadful” for Season 4 on Showtime or perhaps a spinoff series on the same network, showrunner John Logan has said that he is no longer up to it.
In a recent interview, John Logan said that he is already determined to keep Vanessa Ives dead so even if a Season 4 or a spinoff series is pushed through for some reason, there would no longer be any female protagonist.
Every fan and critic of the show know that Vanessa Ives is the central figure of “Penny Dreadful” so continuing without her character is like stepping into the dark with no idea where it is headed into.
Logan said that as much as he loves the other characters and the other actors and also running “Penny Dreadful,” the central ticking clock of the TV series was always Vanessa Ives.
With such statement, it seems clear that a resurrection of Vanessa Ives is unlikely to happen soon and thus confirming that there would no longer be a Season 4 nor a spinoff series of “Penny Dreadful.”

I love “Penny Dreadful.” to return and I think that they should do a spinoff and Netflix can pick up the show or HuluPlus, FX, or all of the channels they didn’t have to cancel it completely it should come back for another season or do a spinoff the show “Penny Dreadful.” is great and awesome, terrific if there’s haters out there that don’t like “Penny Dreadful.” I do have some serious doubts about spoilers and that’s all i’m gonna say.
