‘Penny Dreadful’ Season 3 to Welcome Brian Cox as Ethan Chandler’s Father, More Characters to be Introduced in Upcoming Season!

Fans of the horror drama TV series “Penny Dreadful” will finally be able to put a face to the infamous name Jared Talbot. The upcoming third season of the TV series will welcome “Braveheart” actor Brian Cox, who will portray Ethan Chandler’s father.

Cox has gained fame for playing King Lear when he was part of the Royal Shakespeare Company. The Scottish actor also appeared in movies such as “The Bourne Supremacy” and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.”

Aside from his “Penny Dreadful” stint in the upcoming season, the 69-year-old actor is scheduled to star in a new BBC spy series.

According to Crossmap, Cox has signed up for the show as a guest star. His character has been described as a powerful rancher who has long been on the hunt for his son. Talbot will stop at nothing until he sees Ethan again and settle an old score with his offspring.

Talbot has been a prominent character in the Showtime horror drama TV series despite being mentioned only for the past two seasons. Because his character has been given a little background information in the series, fans have always looked forward to seeing him appear right in front of their small screens.

It was already hinted from the very beginning that his character will appear on the show as the premise of the series showed Ethan, played by Josh Harnett, trying to run away from his father.

The “Troy” actor won’t be seen in the season premiere although Jared is rumored to appear around the middle of the third season and will be the highlight of at least two episodes. Producers have hinted that the Talbot story arc is something that fans would really want to look forward to in Season 3 of “Penny Dreadful.”

Last season, fans saw Ethan finally surrender to the authorities and Scotland Yard was more than happy to cart him off to be sent to America. This development will be the key point for Ethan’s father to enter the picture. Ethan will be left with no choice but to come face to face with his dad.

Executive producer Sam Mendes has teased that the show will somehow be different when it returns next season as the core group of Eva Green’s Vanessa Ives, Timothy Dalton’s Sir Malcolm Murray, and Ethan Chandler will be taking on separate adventures.

It will be an exciting thing to look forward to as the past two seasons have featured the three always together in their adventures. It will be an interesting plot to allow the viewers to get to know these characters more.

Aside from Cox, the British-American series is set to be larger in Season 3, cast-wise. The show will welcome plenty of new cast members when it returns next year.

The Christian Post reports that Perdita Weeks has been cast as Catriona Hartdegan, a headstrong scholar who will be an important ally for show’s main trio, Ethan, Vanessa, and Sir Malcolm Murray.

Christian Camargo will play Dr. Alexander Sweet. Julian, an assistant to Billie Piper’s Brona and Reeve Carney’s Dorian Gray, will be portrayed by Jessica Barden. Wes Studi will also be joining the cast as native American Kaetenay.

Season 3 of “Penny Dreadful” will also see the much-awaited appearance of Dr. Henry Jekyll, the popular British scientist along with his alternate personality, Mr. Edward Hyde. The character will be played by Shazad Latif.

The fictional character was part of Robert Louis Steven’s 1886 novel “Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.”

Patti LuPone will also be joining the upcoming season. Interestingly, she already appeared in the show as the Cut-Wife in Season 2, but the actress will reportedly be back in Season 3, this time as a mainstay character portraying American therapist, Dr. Seward.

With this news, some fans have drawn up speculations that Cut-Wife and Dr. Seward could be the same person hence LuPone’s return. Samuel Barnett has also been added to the cast and will be playing Dr. Seward’s secretary.
