The third season of “Penny Dreadful” is set to return to the small screen on May 1 and the trailer for the TV series suggests that fans will finally get to see the much-awaited reunion of Eva Green’s Vanessa and Josh Harnett’s Ethan.
Showtime released the full trailer for the horror-drama series along with three other sneak peek videos. In the trailer, Ethan is seen kicking off a new journey of danger and challenges to the Dark Continent in order to be with his love.
The trailer saw the character in an anxious state while he was staring at the full moon. As per Ecumenical News, Ethan’s journey will give him a chance to be together with Vanessa again.
Also, Mr. Chandler’s quest this season to Africa is assumed to be filled with unpredicted events set up by the villains.
According to Breathecast, Ethan will rescue Vanessa out of her evil insanity. Although, this might come with a lot of repercussions on Ethan’s part.
In a previous teaser clip released early in January, Vanessa seems to be inside an asylum fighting off the demons in her head while Ethan is finally transforming into his werewolf self.
The trailer also gave fans a glimpse of what other characters are up to this season. Timothy Dalton’s Sir Malcolm appears to be locked in another life or death situation and the relationship between Reeve Carney’s Dorian and Billie Piper’s Brona/Lily will be further explored.
It was previously revealed that Vanessa is trying to ward off her own inadequacies while Dorian and Brona/Lily seem to be setting up their own army for the big day.
Lastly, a glimpse of what definitely looked like zombies was included in the trailer which means that the show will be dealing with this kind of creatures in Season 3.
Meanwhile, Mr. Malcom is rumored to be on Ethan’s side, which will probably happen before or after Ethan’s trip to Africa.
If this rumor holds true, it will be very interesting to see how Ethan and Sir Malcom have formed that alliance.
Aside from Ethan and Vanessa’s reunion, the upcoming season will also see the return of “Driving Miss Daisy” star Patti LuPone.
Breathecast reports that the 66-year-old actress is now a regular cast member and will be playing Dr. Seward, a therapist treating Vanessa. LuPone previously guest-starred on the TV series as the Cut-Wife during the show’s second season.
This time, the veteran actress will be playing a whole new different character and rumor has it that her character will be vital to aid Vanessa’s distressed soul.
Reports say that she will use alternative methods to treat the heroine. It is still unknown though if her unconventional methods will do well for Vanessa or will make matters worse for her.
Apparently, showrunners liked Patti’s performance as the Cut-Wife and her four-episode story arc portraying Joan Ramsey on “American Horror Story: Coven” that’s why they tapped her for a major role in Season 3 of “Penny Dreadful.”
Aside from LuPone, a slew of characters will be added this season to the Showtime series. Shazad Latif will be portraying Robert Loius Stevenson’s beloved character, Dr. Henry Jekyll
Christian Camargo joins the cast and will play Dr. Alexander Sweet, a zoologist who becomes friends with Vanessa.
Wes Studi has also been added to the roster of series regulars this season. He will be playing Kaetenay, an intense and enigmatic Native American with a deep connection to Ethan. Kaetenay will also become an ally to Sir Malcolm.
Samuel Barnett portrays Dr. Seward’s secretary while Jessica Barden plays Justine, an acolyte to Brona and Dorian.
Lastly, Brian Cox joins the cast as Jared Talbot, a powerful rancher and the father of Ethan Chandler. It was earlier reported that the season will finally give a name to the face of Ethan’s father.
