‘Outlander’ Season 3 to Start Off with Jamie Getting a Chance to Start Over with the Dunsany Family

During the Season 2 finale of the British-Irish time-travel romance drama TV series “Outlander” on Starz, Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan, and Claire, played by Caitriona Balfe, were 200 years apart.

Just before the Battle of Culloden, Claire decided to head back to the stones and go back to the future, afraid of what will happen to Jamie since she knows that based on history, the Battle of Culloden was where the Jacobites were completely wiped out.

To be based on the third book entitled “Voyager” by Diana Gabaldon, Season 3 of “Outlander” shall see Jamie surviving the Battle of Culloden. In fact, he will end up in the care of the Dunsany family after the war, where Jamie will get a chance to start over.

Based on the book, the Dunsany twins will play a role in the life of Jamie Fraser and the TV series shall also show it. This was confirmed when the TV series cast Tanya Reynolds for the role of Isobel, and Hannah James as Geneva, details News Everyday.

Among the twins, it will be Geneva who shall be playing a major role in Jamie’s romantic life following Claire’s return to the future.

The highlight of the Battle of Culloden

Incidentally, one of the highlights of the Battle of Culloden is the final meet-up of Jamie and his tormentor and arch-enemy Black Jack Randall, played by Tobias Menzies.

While it is expected that Jamie will kill Black Jack Randall on the battlefield, viewers would like to know how he did it.

Fans actually have the same zest on the death of Black Jack Randall as the death of Ramsay Bolton in the mouths of his own rabid dogs while Sansa Stark was watching during Season 6 of the HBO hit series “Game of Thrones.”

Although his characters in the 1800s will finally be killed off, Tobias Menzies will continue to have a recurring role in “Outlander” Season 3 since his 1960s character, Frank Randall, is very much alive.

It is still not clear whether Tobias Menzies will make it past Season 3 of “Outlander” but his character will certainly fall into some kind of depression moving forward.

The major reason for Frank’s depression

Interestingly, one of the reasons for the possible depression of Frank is the fact that his wife Claire, would return from the past already pregnant with another man’s baby.

So it would be too much to handle for Frank especially after finding out that Claire actually loved the man more than him, notes the iTech Post.

In a recent interview, “Outlander” showrunner Ronald Moore revealed that the upcoming season will feature more exciting actions.

He explained that the first two seasons of “Outlander” were really different from one another, and the third season is really different yet again. Moore also added that Season 3 will be as if it is a whole different show altogether.

The upcoming third season of “Outlander” will also focus on the years together of Frank and Claire after her return from the past immediately before the Battle of Culloden.

Diana Gabaldon, who has reportedly seen the first four episodes of the upcoming third season of “Outlander,” confirmed that the TV series has expanded the story of Frank and Claire a little bit. She added that the executive producers have done it very well and quite consistently too.

The author also assuages fans of Jamie Fraser that the beginning of Season 3 shall feature the familiar showdown with nemesis Black Jack Randall, which she says, is a straight adaptation from the book.

The role of Black Jack is set to end with “Outlander” Season 3 but fans will get to see more of Tobias Menzies as Frank.
