‘Outlander’ Season 3 to See More of Frank Randall Figuring in Claire’s Life as Jamie Finally Puts an End to Black Jack Randall

There will be more of British actor Tobias Menzies in the third season of the British time-traveling romance drama “Outlander” when the show returns on Starz next year.

As such, it is expected that the two characters he is portraying in the show, Black Jack Randall from the 1800s and Frank Randall of the 1940s will be figuring respectively in the lives of Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan, and Claire, played by Caitriona Balfe,

While Claire’s life with her present-day husband Frank has been lightly tackled in “Voyager,” the third book in the “Outlander” book series by author Diana Gabaldon where the TV series is based on, the upcoming third season of the show will focus on the years together of Frank and Claire after her return from the past immediately before the Battle of Culloden, reports TV Guide.

Diana Gabaldon, who has reportedly seen the first four episodes of the upcoming third season of “Outlander,” confirmed that the TV series has expanded the story of Frank and Claire a little bit. She added that the executive producers have done it very well and quite consistently too.

The author also assured fans of Jamie Fraser that the beginning of Season 3 shall feature the familiar showdown with his nemesis Black Jack Randall, which she says, is a straight adaptation from her book.

The role of Black Jack is set to end with “Outlander” Season 3 but fans will get to see more of Tobias Menzies as Frank, details the International Business Times of Australia.

Done filming the first two blocks

Reports have it that filming for the first two blocks of the next season was completed already. Each block consists of two episodes, which means that four episodes of “Outlander” Season 3 are already in the bag.

It was actually the same number of episodes that Diana Gabaldon has seen recently.

According to reports, the cast and crew are now starting work on the next block. With the fading away of old characters from the previous two seasons, including Black Jack Randall, new characters will be added to keep the fans engaged in the upcoming seasons of “Outlander.”

The second season “Outlander” ended when the Battle of Culloden was about to start, leaving a major cliffhanger for Season 3.

Worth the wait

Fans would not be disappointed with the wait as producer and showrunner Ronald D. Moore has already confirmed that the first two episodes of Season 3 of “Outlander” shall feature the bloody but spectacular Battle of Culloden that has been promised by the show in Season 2.

The Battle of Culloden, based on history, is the battle which spelled the doom and complete wipeout of the Jacobites.

Moore assured that the viewers of “Outlander” shall really get some sense of what happened on the battlefield.

He added that it is a completely different beginning to the story as “Outlander” heads out to “Voyager,” the third book of Diana Gabaldon, where Season 3 is based upon.

Actor Sam Heughan also validated the proud statement of Ronald D. Moore on the Battle of Culloden scenes in “Outlander” Season 3. He said that it really looks spectacular.

outlander

However, after the high-octane Battle of Culloden scene, Season 3 of “Outlander” will plateau a bit as “Voyager” is a long and emotionally wrenching ride.

It is not clear if the TV series shall follow the book exactly but based on the first two seasons of “Outlander,” the show hardly deviated from its source materials.

But Moore assured fans of “Outlander” that Season 3 shall offer much more than the Battle of Culloden.
