The news on the “Outlander” horizon is mixed lately – on one hand, recent rumors indicate that the show might have to go through a delay in its production for the upcoming third season; on the other, we’ve also heard some interesting rumors about the possible developments planned for that season, so all in all fans have a lot to discuss.
The talks about a possible delay didn’t start recently, it’s actually a relatively old rumor that just managed to resurface now. That still wasn’t much of a consolation for fans though, and in fact it actually disappointed some, as it seems to confirm the previous claims. Nothing is known for sure until we get an official statement of course.
We’ve heard some claims about the current filming schedule from people on the set, such as actor Sam Heughan, but the only thing he had to say was that the crew is currently looking to finish their filming work around May 2017.
It’s not clear if there will be a need for an extension after that, but even that doesn’t seem like a very positive prediction for fans of the show. After all, it would mean having to wait almost one whole year until we get the next season.
Sam Heughan also had some interesting potential spoilers to share about the third season, and the actor claimed that he already knows the setting of the final episode. If his predictions are correct, we’re going to see scenes that take place in Africa for those final scenes. This should change things up nicely, although it still doesn’t tell fans too much about the season itself.
Other rumors about the show talk about the possibility of new characters joining the cast, but we haven’t heard any exact details on that front. It would definitely not be a bad move for the producers to expand the cast right now, even though the show is still in a relatively early stage of its life. Keeping things fresh and interesting is never a bad idea, as long as the original cast is still given enough attention of course.
As for the beginning of the season, it will reportedly pick up right where the old one left. Jaime will find himself dealing with the fallout of losing Claire, and as for her, she’ll have to deal with her pregnancy in 1948. All in all, it sounds like everyone is in a pretty messy situation and has enough on their mind to deal with.
Some fans have pointed out that we could look at the original book “Voyager” which the show was based on, for hints about the upcoming developments. However, there have been some differences in the adaptation so far, so it’s not guaranteed that the plot is going to develop in the exact same way. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if the producers decided to change some critical points just to mess with their fans who’re trying to “cheat” by looking ahead in the book.
The show has been moving forward quite well so far, and the first two seasons saw a lot of success. There was some skepticism towards the premise at first, and some expected the production to fail after season 1, but that didn’t happen. In fact, it managed to build quite the strong loyal following.
