‘Droughtlander’ is over as the premiere of the Season 2 of the British-American historical drama TV series “Outlander” based on Diana Gabaldon’s novel is confirmed by Starz on April 9.
The second season shall be based on Gabaldon’s second book titled “Dragonfly in Amber” and shall see Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan, and Claire, played by Caitriona Balfe, making changes as they adapt to their new surroundings in Paris, France.
The first season of “Outlander” saw the couple mostly in Scotland, but for Season 2, they will be mostly in Paris as they attempt to rewrite history by stopping the Jacobite rising by seeking out Bonnie Prince Charlie, notes Scotland Now.
Even the pictures from the set as well as the previous reports seem consistent with the plotline on the book which is why viewers are already excited about the return to the small screen of “Outlander.”
Fewer episodes
“Outlander will premiere in the US on April 9 while it will make its debut on UK television via Amazon Prime on April 10. The first season had 16 episodes while the upcoming Season 2 shall have 13 episodes.
But the fewer episodes do not mean that the TV series will be inferior to its premiere season. It so happened that the showrunners and the writers were able to fit the entire story of the second book in 13 episodes so rather than prolong it by making unnecessary deviation, they decided to just go by the book.
Jamie and Claire will make their way into the world of Parisian high society and politics in order to infiltrate the Jacobite rebellion and put an end to the looming Battle of Culloden, details the International Business Times of India.
The Jacobite will be under the leadership of Prince Charles Stuart, played by Andrew Gower, and Jamie and Claire will try to stop the battle that would massacre thousands and destroy the Scottish society, as what was written in the history books.
The pair would be able to draw support from Jared, played by Robert Cavanah, who is Jamie’s cousin. Jared is a Jacobite wine merchant residing in Paris. He will pave the way for the entry of Jamie and Claire to French high society.
Once they are inside, Jamie and Claire will find out that despite the lavish parties and social gatherings in Paris, there is no political system to govern the people and society.
Two important characters
It has also been reported that Season 2 will also see the daughter of Jamie and Claire in Brianna Fraser, to be played by British actress Sophie Skelton.
Prior to Skelton being named to fill the role of Brianna in the TV show, there have been reports last year that Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark in the popular HBO TV series “Game of Thrones” was being considered for the same role. Apparently, one Sophie’s lost was another Sophie’s gain.
Sophie Skelton is actually a trained singer and dancer. Her role as Brianna is described in the books of Diana Gabaldon as a striking, redheaded woman, strong-minded, and intelligent beyond her years with traits inherited from both her mother and father.
Another important character which will be introduced in the upcoming second season is the role of Roger Wakefield, the adopted son of Reverend Reginald Wakefield, played by James Fleet.
Roger will be played by Richard Rankin. He will eventually meet Brianna and shall play a significant role in her and her parents’ life.
Meanwhile, in a recent interview, actor Sam Heughan says that the Paris setting of Season 2 of “Outlander” has changed the show and its characters.
Heughan made the disclosure recently as the production was about to wrap up filming for the second season of “Outlander,” which is due to premiere on the small screen this coming April.
He added that Season 2 of “Outlander” is completely different than Season 1. They are in Paris so there is a completely different look to the show, citing further that the costumes look fantastic and ostentatious too.
