Season 2 of the American-British historical drama TV series “Outlander,” based on the novel series of critically-acclaimed author Diana Gabaldon, will premiere on Starz on April 9 and there are talks that the female protagonist of the show, Claire Fraser/Claire Randall, played by Caitriona Balfe, will get the opportunity to go back to her own time.
The confirmation came no less from the actress when she said that the time-hopping heroine would make another trip through the standing stones that will throw her back into her own time and into the arms of her first love, Frank Randall, played by Tobias Menzies.
Unfortunately for Frank, Claire is no longer in love with him because she has already found her soulmate in the 17th century in the person of Scottish highlander Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan. The even sad part of it all for Frank is that Claire will be pregnant with another man’s child when she returns, details Enstarz.
In a recent interview with Caitriona Balfe, she said that Claire’s relationship with Frank is very tragic. She says that Frank really loves Claire but their reunion will be far from happy as his wife would be thinking more of Jamie whom she left behind in the 17th century.
It is not yet clear how Claire would return to the standing stones because the place is in Scotland and during the Season 1 finale, she and Jamie sailed off to France.
Based on the reports of the possible plotlines for Season 2 of “Outlander,” Jamie and Claire will be blending in at Paris as they attempt to stop the Jacobite rising. Based on history, the Jacobite rising spelled the end of the Scottish clans and Claire and Jamie will attempt to alter the course of history.
Key art and costumes for Season 2
Starz released last week some of the key art for the second season of “Outlander” and it showed Jamie and Claire already in Paris and dressing their parts.
One of the portraits also showed Claire in ‘The Red Dress’ which was a familiar chapter in the second book in the series titled “Dragonfly in Amber” and is also very much known to fans of the books.
The picture of Claire was used to promote the interactive Outlander Community, which showed off the magnificent French costumes the cast of characters will be wearing in the second season of “Outlander,” details Scotland Now.
Terry Dresbach, the costume designer for “Outlander,” confirmed that he got himself a monumental task with Season 2 of the TV series as far as costumes are concerned and the 6,500 hangers that were used are proofs of how gargantuan the costume designs have become.
Dresbach also elaborated that the costumes for Season 2 are completely different from the clothing that was used during the premiere season because it actually recreated the fashion of the 18th century France. He said that they had to because 18th century France is one of the most well-documented periods of fashion in the world so they had to get it right for the show.
In addition to the numerous dresses for the cast of characters, they have also acquired another 5,000 shoes for Season 2, the costume designer disclosed.
Heavy musical shift
The second season of “Outlander” is expected to bring big changes. The second season will see Jamie and Frank setting sail for their safety to France.
It was actually composer Bear McCreary who confirmed the changes in the show as evidenced by the heavy musical shift in concert with the setting change.
McCreary said that Season 2 of “Outlander” is an essentially different show because the look is different and the costumes are opulent, forcing him to intensely researched the music of the time period.
