As the British-American historical drama TV series “Outlander” moves to Paris for its Season 2, a lot of things will be in store for Jamie Frazer, played by Sam Heughan, and Claire, played by Caitriona Balfe.
While the pair would work on stopping the Jacobite rising from happening, their life in Paris would be a little bit complicated as there are reports that a baby daughter would eventually come into their relationship equation.
Though there have been no reports yet as to how the baby daughter would figure out in their relationship, it seems that it could happen through a form of flashbacks of some kind.
Apparently, the role of adult Brianna, the daughter of Jamie and Claire, has just been given to actress Sophie Skelton and she will be seen when the TV series premieres on Starz in April for its second season, notes The Hollywood Reporter.
Reports have it that Season 2 of “Outlander” is going to introduce Claire and Jamie’s daughter Brianna in a major twist.
Skelton is joining the cast as the action on “Outlander” shifts to Paris, where Jamie and Claire device a covert plot to undermine the rise of the Jacobites, cites the Digital Spy.
Prior to Skelton being named to fill the role of Brianna in the TV show, there have been reports last year that Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark in the popular HBO TV series “Game of Thrones” was being considered for the same role.
Apparently, one Sophie’s lost was another Sophie’s gain.
A singer and a dancer
Sophie Skelton is actually a trained singer and dancer. Her role Brianna is described in the books of Diana Gabaldon as a striking, redheaded woman, strong-minded, and intelligent beyond her years with traits inherited from both her mother and father.
The character has a distinctly scholastic mindset and a healthy dose of Frazer stubbornness.
Skelton has performed in various stage productions including “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Les Miserables,” and “West Side Story.” Her TV credits include “Doctors,” “DCI Banks,” “Waterloo Road,” “Foyle’s War,” and “Casualty – Forsaking All Others.”
The actress will also appear in the upcoming TV show “Ren” and several feature films including “Another Man’s Son” and “Ladybird.”
Another important character
The casting of Sophie Skelton follows the previous report from Starz that Scottish actor Richard Rankin has been tapped to take on the pivotal role of Roger Wakefield.
Starz made the official announcement on the casting of Rankin in December. For his part, Rankin also posted on Twitter that he is hugely excited to be joining the “Outlander” family on Starz, which he describes as an amazing production filled with truly wonderful people and the best fans around.
The Scottish actor recently appeared alongside Bradley Cooper in John Wells’ “Burnt,” and also starred in other TV series including “The Syndicate,” “The Crimson Field,” and NBC’s “American Odyssey.” Most recently, Rankin appeared in the BBC One drama “From Darkness,” and he will next be seen playing a detective in the BBC’s new drama mini-series “Thirteen.”
The second season of “Outlander” shall be based on the second book of Diana Gabaldon titled “Dragonfly in Amber.”
Ranking’s character Roger Wakefield is described in the book as intelligent, kind-hearted, and charming. He is the grown up version of Reverend Wakefield’s adopted son, whom fans saw in Season 1 of “Outlander.”
After Roger’s parents died during World War II, he was raised by the Reverend with the help from his housekeeper, Mrs. Graham. He is a proud Scot through and through. Already a professor at Oxford University, Roger has a keen interest in history, and all the secrets and insight it presents.
Those who have read the best-selling novels of Gabaldon know that Roger shall play an important role in the lives of Jamie Frazer and Claire as their time-travelling story unfolds.
