According to Gabaldon, there are very few people that have a clue what challenges faced those that were on set for the first season. Fans are complaining about the delay, but of course, they have no clue what goes into making an episode for a dramatic series like Outlander. Gabaldon revealed that it could take up to eight weeks of production time, including the filming and post-production, just to make one episode.

Not only that, if there are day time scenes, the day starts very early and that can play a major role in the cast getting scenes right and ready for film. With so much going into one episode, it only makes sense that some dramatic, hour long shows are completed within ten episodes per season. When Outlander makes sixteen episodes per season, you can just sit back and imagine the amount of time that it takes to pull that off. In many ways, it might make you appreciate the show even more, knowing how much work goes into one.
