“Outlander” was a moderately successful production and it’s still being discussed by some of its fans, but perhaps more importantly, it was a good step up for Sam Heughan in his career, as he’s been able to score some various interesting opportunities ever since. It was recently reported that he will be playing alongside Melissa Benoist in “Oxford”, and some of the actor’s fans have been very happy over this development.
Both actors have managed to establish a moderately good following at this point thanks to their work on other productions, and Melissa Benoist rose to prominence mostly due to her work on “Glee”. She was recently confirmed to have been cast in the main role as Supergirl in the production of the same name which is being handled by CBS, and she will apparently also be playing in “Oxford”, a new production that’s currently underway.
In “Oxford”, we’re going to see Benoist and Heughan developing a romantic relationship as Heughan plays the role of Benoist’s doomed love interest, according to reports. There will be a sad undertone to the whole story, as it will be revealed that Heughan’s character is actually suffering from cancer and is on the way to his death bed.
This will result in a very exciting, explosive love story where the two of them are going to be spending a lot of time with each other and will be trying to make the most with what they have available. We’re going to see them going around the world, experiencing various interesting things together and appreciating the little time they have in each other’s company.
A large part of the show’s plot will actually focus on the illness that Heughan is suffering from, and it will have some touching moments meant to remind people to love and appreciate each other, from what we’ve been able to tell. This isn’t going to be any random production with cancer used as a plot device, there are going to be some very deep and dark moments that will move viewers very strongly, according to what we’re hearing.
Fans on both sides – both of Benoist as well as Heughan – have been hoping that they’re going to see a very interesting chemistry between the two actors on the screen, as they’re both known for their strong skills and it will definitely be exciting to see how well their skills mesh with each other.
In the end, it’s a love story above all else – but it will be a love story unlike most that we’ve seen so far. Many productions nowadays tend to present love in a very easy-going, “pink” way, and it looks like this storyline is going to take a more serious approach and remind us of the difficulties that lovers often have to go through together, and the suffering that comes with even the best love stories in the world. We’re quite excited to see how both actors are going to handle this kind of story, as it’s going to be something new for both of them.
It’s indeed a different type of performance than what we’re used to seeing from Benoist and Heughan alike, and it might set some new trends for what both actors could do with their careers in the future. It might even turn out that they discover that they enjoy this kind of acting and we’ll end up seeing them in more serious roles more often from now on.
