Oscar De La Hoya Says Mayweather Has the Advantage Over Pacquiao Since Pacman Has Been Into More Wars than Money in the Last 5 Years

Now that the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is finally on, the Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya remains consistent with his earlier pronouncement that Money will have the advantage over the Pacman during the mega-fight.

De La Hoya believes that the advantage of Mayweather over Pacquiao lies on the fact that the Filipino boxing icon has been into more wars in the ring than Floyd Jr. was in the last five years.

The legendary De La Hoya, who is also the promoter for Golden Boy Promotions, says that Pacquiao has the disadvantage of wear and tear unlike Mayweather who has not so much exposure in the ring as the Pacman had, notes the Australian edition of the International Business Times.

Records show that Pacquiao has had 10 fights in the last five years, or an average of two fights per year. He has fought the likes of Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley, Brandon Rios, and Chris Algieri.

Mayweather, on the other hand, has only fought seven times in the last five years, going up against the likes of Shane Mosley, Victor Ortiz, Miguel Cotto, Robert Guerrero, Saul Alvarez, and Marcos Maidana.

Too many wars already

Oscar De La Hoya believes that Manny Pacquiao has been in too many wars already. And most of those wars are great fights too. He did not say however whether the fights of Mayweather were as great or as not great as those of the Filipino boxing icon.

The Golden Boy also said that he would have preferred that the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. happened five years earlier because it could have been a great fight since the two boxers were still in their primes.

But now that both fighters are in their late 30s, De La Hoya is conceding the advantage to Mayweather because he is the fresher of the two boxers despite being the older one too.

De La Hoya, who was beaten by both Pacquiao and Mayweather in the past, says that the Pacman’s boxing style is also very aggressive that is why he got knocked out cold by Juan Manuel Marquez via a lucky punch, the same knockout that Money had been using to taunt the Pacman.

The opinions of other boxers

Even before the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight became official for its May 2 date at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, several boxers have given their two-cents worth on who they think will win the world’s most anticipated boxing match.

The boxing world has long wanted to see the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight and De La Hoya is just one of the many former and current boxers who made their opinions on who they think has the advantage when the fight takes place on May 2. In picking Mayweather to win the fight, De La Hoya has shared the opinions of Brandon Rios, Abel Sanchez, Bernard Hopkins, Ricky Hatton and Juan Manuel Marquez who all believe in Money over Manny.
