‘Orange is the New Black’ Season 5 Shocking Death of Poussey to Hugely Impact

Fans of “Orange is the New Black”were shocked with how Samira Wiley’s Poussey was killed off.

And while this could be taken as a huge development in the story, it doesn’t seem to be the case when it comes to the fans’ emotional attachment to the character.

During the Season 4, Poussey was participating in a peaceful rally in Litchfield Penitentiary when a prison guard pinned her down and suffocated her to death.

In an interview, Wiley opens up about her character’s death saying that it was a move that gave the show more depth and her demise was made something meaningful for the fans.

The 29-year-old actress reveals that at first, she was shocked and confused when she found out about the fate of her character.

Rumors also surfaced that her character was killed off because she wanted to leave the show, something that Samira says is far from the truth.

It was only when she had a long talk with the writers and the producers that she understood that Poussey’s death was the best way that the show could reflect the ‘Black Lives Matter’ plot.

Samira admits that after having some time to think, she realized that it was indeed a great vessel to portray that alarming yet sensitive social issue of today.

In a recent interview, Wiley was in near tears while talking about her memorable role. She says that fans will surely miss Poussey’s positive attitude and her upbeat disposition.

Despite the sad news that she won’t be returning for the future seasons of the Netflix hit, Wiley lauds the cast and crew for handling her inmate character’s death with utmost respect.

Her death could open doors for a potential story arc on the societal issue of police brutality towards people of color.

Samira shares that her death reflects those of police brutality victims such as Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and Alton Sterling.

She adds that people are really upset with what happened to Poussey when they should be really upset with what is happening in the real world.

Reports say that since the Emmy-winning series has been renewed for three more seasons, Poussey’s death will definitely resonate in the future episodes.

Reports say that the first few episodes will see the inmates of Litchfield Prison mourning their friend’s death. It will also be interesting to see how the administration of the prison will handle the situation when one of their prison guards is involved.

Fans speculate that Poussey’s demise will be the turning point where the inmates will display signs that they fed up with the penitentiary system and will fight back.

Meanwhile, there are also reports that Laura Gomez’ Bianca is set to overthrow Taylor Schilling’s Piper.

Fans were given a clue as to how Bianca’s influence can raise awareness and will to fight back among inmates. She expressed dismay over how Latinas and black inmates were being treated.

Poussey’s death played a large role in Bianca’s desire for a change. Rumors say that Piper and Bianca will be at odds in Season 5 with the latter thinking that Piper is not doing well enough to raise issues about equality.

Piper is rumored to be getting back with Laura Prepon’s Alex once again in Season 5 and fans are excited for the reunion to finally happen.

Aside from a potential new leader and a Poussey-less Litchfield, Season 5 is expected to create the biggest uprising yet. Reports say that friends will avenge the death of their inmate causing a riot to occur.

Orange is the New Black Season 5
