‘Orange is the New Black’ Season 5 Gets an Official Premiere Date as Official Teaser Shows the Ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary Being Good to Go!

Netflix has just announced that its comedy-drama TV series “Orange is the New Black” will be premiering on June 9.

It made the official announcement and also released a 15-second teaser recently that gave fans a glimpse of the ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary being ready to go, reports Variety.

The trailer showed Alex, Piper, Nicky, Flaca, Taystee, Morello, Cindy, Maria, Red, Gloria and a gun-toting Daya.

It can be recalled that Season 4 of “Orange is the New Black” ended on a major cliffhanger. After Caputo announced during a live press conference that Poussey’s death was an accident, Taystee and her fellow inmates banded together and rioted in the halls.

They were eventually stopped by psychotic officer Humphrey, who pulled out an unauthorized gun with intent to use it. After it was quickly knocked out of his hands, Daya picked it up and pointed it at his head.

Good for three more seasons at least

Last year, Netflix renewed “Orange is the New Black” for three more seasons because the TV series is consistently the streaming service’s most-watched original show.

Creator and showrunner Jenji Kohan is on board for the next three seasons of the show, produced by Lionsgate TV.

Plot details for the 13-episode fifth installment of “Orange is the New Black,” after a shocking turn in Season 4, have been kept under wraps.

But cast member Danielle Brooks, who plays Taystee in the TV series, revealed last month that Season 5 will take place over a mere three-day span with a very detailed, very intense storyline.

The cast of “Orange is the New Black” includes Taylor Schilling, Uzo Aduba, Laura Prepon, Kate Mulgrew, Danielle Brooks, Adrienne C. Moore, Jackie Cruz, Laverne Cox, Lea DeLaria and Natasha Lyonne, reports TV Line.

Changes in Litchfield Penitentiary

Following the riot that broke out inside the Litchfield Penitentiary during the Season 4 finale of the “Orange is the New Black,” reports have it that there would be a change in the facility in the upcoming fifth season of the show.

Based on the latest rumors, life inside Litchfield Penitentiary will get harder due to the prison being overcrowded with more inmates.

There are also speculations saying that the changes in Litchfield Penitentiary could also be due to the new characters to be introduced in “Orange is the New Black” Season 5.

There are also reports saying that Litchfield will have a new officer after the facility’s administration got fed up with the terrible CO who was previously running the place.

A new officer could either mean one of two things for the inmates of Litchfield Penitentiary – it could mean a better time for everyone or a more challenging one. But most of the bets are saying that it is going to be a challenging one to make the upcoming fifth season of “Orange is the New Black” more interesting and exciting.

There are also speculations saying that there will be another major riot in Litchfield in Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black” that will send more inmates afterward to the Security Housing Unit or SHU.

The show has been renewed by Netflix for three more seasons which had fans really excited for what’s in store for the upcoming season of the popular TV show.

Orange is the New Black

The success of “Orange is the New Black” has been attributed to its compelling stories about the inmates and correctional officers of Litchfield Penitentiary.

The black comedy has really offered something unique to viewers by ingeniously crafting comedy with serious undertones of women in prison cells.

Incidentally, fans are also anticipating the episode of “Orange is the New Black” Season 5 which shall be directed by Laura Prepon.
