There was a recent teaser trailer of “Orange is the New Black” Season 5 that was aired on Netflix showing the hand of Piper Chapman, played by actress Taylor Schilling, about to be smashed.
That clip was enough to send rumor mills swirling and saying that Piper would meet his demise in the upcoming fifth season of the hit drama-comedy TV series on Netflix, notes the Parent Herald.
However, most fans and critics do not believe that Season 5 would be the end for Piper Chapman as she is one of the lead characters in the TV series. In fact, her character was named after Piper Kerman, the author of “Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison,” the main source material for the TV series.
In addition, there are also speculations saying that the hair evolution of Piper Chapman in the TV series is also a clue that she will finally meet her end in Season 5.
Piper first appeared in the TV series with a long hair before she ended up in jail. When she got incarcerated, she wore a shoulder-length hair. But in the preview of the upcoming fifth season of “Orange is the New Black,” she was seen frequently wearing a pulled back hair style.
In a recent interview, Taylor Schilling denied that Piper’s hair has any relevance to the situation that her character is into in Litchfield Penitentiary.
She said that at this point in her character’s life, she has become more practical and has only one thought running through her mind, which is to survive. Schilling also hinted that things will be tough for Piper in the upcoming fifth season of “Orange is the New Black.”
But it seems that the rumors about Piper dying in Season 5 are the same as the ones last year when speculations started going around that Laura Prepon’s Alex Vause will die because she would not be able to survive the assault on her by an assailant. In order to arrest the rumors, Prepon posted a photo of herself in orange uniform and posting her Litchfield Penitentiary inmate ID. And true enough, she survived and was very much alive during the fourth season of the TV series.
A three-season renewal
Contrary to inaccurate reports last month saying that Netflix has just canceled Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black,” the TV series has already been renewed by the streaming service giant for three more seasons, which means it is officially good to go until Season 7, details iTech Post.
As to whether it could go beyond Season 7, it is too early to say since the start of the three-season renewal is only about to begin next year.
Showrunner Jenji Kohan is the person who was most excited and grateful for the good news about the three-season renewal of “Orange is the New Black.”
In a social media post, Kohan thanked Netflix and also welcomed Lionsgate. He also lauded the stellar cast, crew, writers, producers, editors, musicians, mixers, and shleppers with whom he has the pride and honor of crafting “Orange is the New Black.” He ended his post by repeating ‘Three more years!’
Representing the mentally ill community
Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black” will also see the character Sam Healy back in action. Actor Michael Harney, who plays the role of Sam Healy, has confirmed that he will return to “Orange is the New Black” when it airs on Netflix in the spring of next year.
Harney also says that he is honored to be able to represent the mentally ill community through his effective portrayal in the show.
He explained that the population needs support and he believes that there are programs that help the folks struggling with their support needs.
The actor said that he is really impassioned to do his Sam Healy role in a way that he did because the heavy-duty sufferings of the character actually reflect the major challenges of the mentally ill community.
In a previous interview, he said he has no idea whether he shall be reprising his role as Sam Healy again in Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black.”
He said that he feels very comfortable with the writers of “Orange is the New Black.” They just give him things to do and then he just kind of ride the wave in the ocean.
Harney added that he just gets on it and go with it. As he goes in his career, he prefers having a freshness to things and he did not really know anything until he got his hands on the script of those episodes.
