As the hit Netflix TV series is actually based on the published memoir of Piper Kerman, Piper Chapman, the character played by actress Taylor Schilling, is actually the main protagonist of the show during its first two seasons.
However, for filming purposes, instead of being taken from a first-person perspective, the TV series has expanded to feature other characters whose only connection to Piper Chapman is the fact that they are all inmates of the fictitious Litchfield Penitentiary.
Taylor Schilling was recently interviewed about her character in the upcoming Season 4 of “Orange is the New Black” and she hinted of Piper Chapman’s continued evolution.
She said that Piper is becoming a little bit of a kingpin and has this swagger in her. But she also said that Piper Chapman is someone who likes to try on everything around her like a piece of clothing.
Schilling said that Piper likes to try on a jacket even though it does not fit her but it is one thing that the actress likes about the character she portrays in the popular comedy-drama TV series, notes Cinema Blend.
According to reports, Piper Chapman will be going to get more obsessed with the world within the Litchfield Penitentiary.
A surprising story arc for the TV series
Piper Chapman had one of the more surprising story arcs during the first three seasons of “Orange is the New Black.”
The TV series began with a very normal and sheltered Piper being thrown into the crazy world that is her incarceration to the Litchfield Penitentiary.
Season 1 saw Piper adjusting to her life in prison and blending among the colorful cast of characters behind bars.
Her entire existence center around the prison and saw her relationships with her best friend and fiancée Alex Vause, played by Laura Prepon, ended. While she continued to have strained familial connections, she started her own illegal business within the facility.
Piper’s kingpin status means a few things for the TV series as a whole. There needs to be a reason for Piper to stay in Litchfield Penitentiary since she was supposed to be incarcerated for only a year. It is likely that Piper’s illegal business will be discovered, and she will be awarded more time in prison in the process.
Not going anywhere
During Season 3 of “Orange is the New Black,” Healy, played by Michael Harney, become more close to Red, played by Kate Mulgrew, as the latter helped him with his wife.
While Red said to Healy that their time could have already passed, reports have it that their relationship would not be going anywhere in the upcoming fourth season, due to hit Netflix on June 17 in its entirety.
In a recent interview, actress Kate Mulgrew said that her character had some interesting things with Michael Harney and it is more like a deep friendship between the two.
She said that it is an edgy thing for her character to be put into such situation but going beyond the relationship would be a mistake.
In fact, there are reports saying that Red and Piper may actually develop some special feelings between them because they share the same cell. However, it may be aborted with the arrival of new inmates as seen in the latest trailer where both Red and Piper are now sharing the same cell with a couple of new inmates, details E! Online.
Netflix has recently dropped the latest trailer to “Orange is the New Black” Season 4 which further fuelled fan excitement to the show.
While there have been plenty of reported and rumored plotlines, casting news, and photos from the set on social media and the internet in general about “Orange is the New Black” Season 4, nothing beats a new trailer to hype up the enthusiasm and the anticipation for the Netflix hit series.
