With the fourth season of “Orange is the New Black” just around the corner, rumors are rife that the upcoming season will be its darkest one yet.
The rumor mill started going abuzz when Netflix recently debuted the trailer for the upcoming season of “Orange is the New Black.” Some fans have noted that it was the series’ most dramatic trailer yet.
The clip begins with Uzo Aduba’s Suzanne and Danielle Brooks’ Taystee exchanging their usual jokes and banters. It then changes into a darker tone eventually showing tension among the main characters as well as pain and suffering the inmates have to go through.
Also, episode stills released by the streaming service recently show everything turning dark for Taylor Schilling’s Piper Chapman. In fact, in one photo, she is seen about to lose a hand.
Speaking to Pop Sugar, the actress refuses to divulge the outcome of the scene and teases that fans to just wait and see for themselves.
During the Season 3 finale last year, it showed that Litchfield Penitentiary will be taking in several new prisoners and Warden Caputo, played by Nick Sandow, will most likely be the one in charge of them, which spells big trouble already.
Fans are looking forward as to what the new inmates will bring to Litchfield Penitentiary. It will be interesting to see how the old inmates will react to the new inmates especially now that the prison feels tighter.
During the Season 3 finale, while the prisoners were enjoying their swim in the lake, construction crews convert their beds into two-tiered bunk beds, doubling the prison’s capacity with several busloads of new prisoners arriving at Litchfield.
Season 3 ended with a huge cliffhanger with the potential death of Laura Prepon’s Alex Vause. The character was not spotted in the Season 4 trailer which fuelled speculations that she did meet her demise.
However, there are reports saying that it was just a strategy to tease fans of the character’s fate and that Alex is still alive and well this season. In fact, she was included in the official poster for Season 4 which heavily suggests that she survived the assault on her by her former boss.
In the Season 3 finale, Alex was cornered in the prison greenhouse by one of her former bosses and drug lord, while everyone else was taking a dip in the lake. It was revealed that he was one of Kubra’s cronies impersonating a guard.
As per The Bitbag, Prepon says that Season 4 will finally push the envelope which means that fans will be seeing a lot more outrageous antics from the Litchfield prisoners, as well as getting a deeper look into the criminal justice system.
Over the show’s three seasons, the show has depicted corruption and inadequacies of the US prison system and the abuse of power by some correctional officers on female inmates.
Prepon’s statements further fuels the speculations that Season 4 is out to be the most serious season the show is going to be as tensions are obviously at an all-time high.
Christian Today reports that Season 4 will show what happens in the conflict between Jackie Cruz’ Flaca and Gloria, played by Selenis Leyva, as well as with Leanne and Norma, portrayed by Emma Myles and Annie Golden, respectively.
Samira Wiley’s Poussey and Kimoko Glenn’s Soso are also expected to grow closer in the upcoming season. They were seen hugging each other in the trailer. Fans may remember that during the Season 3 finale, Soso overdosed on drugs and Poussey was one of the people who rescued her.
Meanwhile, rumors are also rife that Piper will be killed off in Season 4. As per Pop Sugar, after three seasons, the Netflix hit series has changed focus from Piper to the other inmates.
