“Orange Is the New Black” fans are currently waiting for the fourth season of the show, and production on it has already started. Everyone on the crew is hard at work on the new episodes, but it looks like they’re going to need some help for the new season. Recently, the studio has announced that they’re in the process of casting for new inmates in New York City, and they’re particularly looking for Dominican type females to join the show’s cast.
This could have something to do with the finale for season 3, which showed that more inmates would be arriving to Litchfield prison soon, which can only mean even more drama and conflicted situations for everyone’s favorite characters. So far, it looks like the show’s producers are looking to fill some of the bunk beds that they have prepared in the prison, but we don’t know exactly how many new cast members they’re looking to hire.
Some details from the casting call include a requirement that candidates must not have worked on the show previously, and should be comfortable with having “natural hair only, no wigs, waves, extensions, dreads, twists and no unnatural colors”. This makes it pretty clear that they’re looking for a typical inmate role, but the casting call doesn’t specify how many positions they are looking to fill.
The only small hint we got from that was the fact that all those characters will be completely new to the show and we won’t have seen them before, so the producers are definitely looking to spice things up a little bit.
Meanwhile, Lea DeLaria has recently been made a regular cast member for the new season. She plays the role of Carrie “Big Boo” Black, and was recently just a recurring member, but it looks like fans are going to see her more regularly on the screen. Along with her, Jackie Cruz has been given a similar promotion, so her character Marisol “Flaca” Gonzales is also going to get more prominent exposure in the future episodes.
Both characters have been recurring on the show since its first season, so it’s nice to see them finally joining the more permanent side of the cast. Hopefully, the show’s producers have some interesting ideas for them, as they definitely have some potential to expand the story in more unusual ways.
Another point of debate in the show’s community has been the return of Matt McGorry in his role as John Bennett. So far, it hasn’t been confirmed whether or not the actor will be reprising his role, but the most recent developments in his part of the story were definitely interesting and left the door open for some curious future subplots.
He actually got engaged to one of the inmates – Daya – in season 3, after which he abandoned her and her child soon after he visited her home. After that, the show didn’t show much of his character, but we can only assume that he’ll be coming back in one form or another. There is too much potential in his character to just let him go like that, and we would definitely be disappointed if the producers decided to completely put him aside.
The actor himself doesn’t seem to know the truth yet, or at least that’s his public stance on the situation when he was asked about it. He was admittedly a bit brief in his answer, so we don’t know if it was genuine or not.
