After its launch on July 27 at the UK, the OnePlus Two has started rolling out to several markets in the world through its much-maligned but otherwise proven effective invite system.
Banking primarily on the success of the 2014’s most exciting Android phone, the OnePlus One, the OnePlus Two was rolled out, with promises of an even better features and specifications than its predecessor.
The Chinese smartphone maker was not actually lying when it said that OnePlus Two will be a lot better than the OnePlus One because it did.
The problem comes from the fact that the flagship smartphones of today were way better than their counterparts last year. So when OnePlus One was launched last year with practically the same specifications, capabilities, and features of several Android flagships last year, the smartphone simply pulled the rug from under them especially with its jaw-dropping price point.
OnePlus One was a 2014 flagship killer alright because it made the flagship smartphones last year really look expensive when it can actually be offered at a better price point which the Chinese smartphone maker did.
Those who have had the privilege of being able to purchase the OnePlus Two already via the company’s invite system were actually the ones who turned in their initial reviews of the smartphone, which the Chinese smartphone maker positioned as a 2015 flagship killer.
The OnePlus Two is a great phone alright and it is certainly a lot better than the OnePlus One, but it is no flagship killer.
The OnePlus Two looks great alright, but it simply comes out boring because the Chinese smartphone maker decided to make the most inoffensive device possible so as not to turn off any potential customers.
A great camera
One of the great features that OnePlus Two is boasting about is its superb camera, which is quite true. In fact, there’s a whole page on the Chinese smartphone maker’s website showcasing the features of the camera including laser autofocus and optical image stabilization, notes Android Police.
However, as of late, many owners of OnePlus Two are raising concerns about the optical image stabilization (OIS) feature of the smartphone’s camera. Many users noted that their shaky hands in taking videos are not being offset by the OIS feature of the camera, which is what its purpose is all about.
While it was not a question of whether the camera does have the OIS, the issue was actually whether the OIS is enabled or not. After a thorough scrutiny by some users, it turns out that the OIS is enabled alright, but the feature is not working like the one in the Samsung Galaxy S6.
However, when the user opts for digital zoom, that’s when the OnePlus Two video looks smoother compared to a smartphone without an OIS. Thus, it is possible that OnePlus Two might be lacking additional software stabilization features making the final product less stable.
Best value for money
Consistent with the positioning of the Chinese smartphone maker for its smartphones, the OnePlus Two has one of the best value for money among handset devices in the market today, details The Indian Express.
It offers a great performance, a superb camera, and a 64GB of storage. OnePlus Two still does not so much as budge when it is subjected to a heavy task, but there is a noticeable lag on the UI since the last update. There are times when users have to wait a few seconds for the screen swipe to happen.
From the start, the battery life was well over 12 hours but after its last update, its life has diminished to eight hours.
While there have been reports of overheating because the OnePlus Two is using Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, it was initially able to stay cool. But over the course of usage, the overheating problem started showing up.
