The Android M, Google’s upcoming mobile operating system to take the place of the Android Lollipop, has yet to be officially launched or released. But a tech-savvy user of OnePlus One has already unveiled a video showing the 2014 flagship killer running on the beta build of Google’s latest mobile OS.
The video was uploaded by member Aaahh in the OnePlus website forum showing the device booting on Android M minus the wallpapers, boot animation, and apps, notes the International Business Times of UK.
Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has not expressed any intention nor did it make any pronouncement as of late that it is planning to roll out the Android M on its 2014 flagship smartphone so the leaked video is merely a user initiative.
It will also be counter-productive for the Chinese smartphone maker to launch a firmware update on its previous flagship smartphone anytime considering that it is about to officially release its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus Two, on July 27 at the UK.
Not for daily use
However, based on the test version of the OnePlus One running on the Android M beta build, it is not yet ready for daily use. It also appears to be bloated, containing two similar apps, one of which crashes faster than the other.
Some of the features of the OnePlus One will not function properly with the Android M, considering that the ROM is still undergoing development.
Among those features of OnePlus One that may not work well with the Android M include the audio, the sensors, the Bluetooth, multiple versions of the same app, crashing app, and SystemUI.
OnePlus is not encouraging users to update the OnePlus One to Android M beta build so any attempt by anyone will be at their own risk.
While the user-developer has provided a manual installation guide for Android M beta build on the OnePlus One, it is nonetheless abdicating any responsibility in the event that something happens to the handset after taking on the Android M beta OS update.
Most exciting Android phone
If there’s one thing that the global smartphone industry can remember about the OnePlus One, and its Chinese manufacturer truly proud of, it’s the fact that the handset was recognized as the most exciting Android phone of 2014 and also last year’s flagship killer.
With its great economies of scale and features that can actually rival the flagship smartphones of big name handset makers, OnePlus One ushered something different in the very competitive smartphone market – innovation and excellence need not come with a high price.
When it was released to the retail markets last year, OnePlus One had excellent features and great specifications that were actually at par with the Android flagship smartphones of 2014 including the HTC One M8, the Samsung Galaxy S5, and LG G3, the Sony Xperia Z3, among others.
But unlike those major flagships, OnePlus One had a price that is far less than the others in the competitive lot giving smartphone users an affordable option. However, upon using the smartphone and discovered that its key features also rival those of the other flagships, the word easily spread around. And the rest is history. OnePlus One made it into the big leagues right on its first foray into the market.
Other than its affordable price, OnePlus One actually ushered into the smartphone business a first not only in its class but in the entire industry.
When it first came out of the retail markets last year, OnePlus One is actually the first smartphone whose camera can shoot both Ultra High Definition (UHD) and 4K videos.
While many television sets have been claiming as early as last year that they are 4K capable TV, the truth is that they are merely UHD TVs.
