Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has confirmed that its upcoming flagship smartphone, the OnePlus Two, will be powered by the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor.
OnePlus Two is expected to be released in the third quarter of this year although the Chinese smartphone company has yet to specify an exact date as of this time.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor is one of the better processors in the market today and its speed, and ability to do multi-tasking while maintaining optimal battery performance remain unparalleled among others in the industry today, notes the Android Central.
It’s also the same processor that is now being used by the current flagship smartphone of the Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC, the HTC One M9.
There have been reports in the past that despite its splendid performance, the Snapdragon 810 processor actually runs warmer than its predecessors, making overheating an issue. That has actually plagued the HTC One M9 when a recent test among the flagship smartphones, it was proven to be the hottest, temperature-wise, after some time of continued use.
Took the necessary precautions
To assure the prospective buyers of its OnePlus Two, the Chinese smartphone maker said that it has taken all the necessary precautions and beyond to prevent overheating from occurring on their upcoming flagship smartphone.
The company disclosed that they have closely worked with the engineers of Qualcomm to integrate an improved version of the chipset in the OnePlus Two, and fine-tuned both hardware and software to make the OnePlus Two cooler than ever.
OnePlus also stated that it will likewise guarantee that the Snapdragon 810 processor will work with its Android-based OxygenOS which will be coming with the handset out of the box.
The Chinese smartphone maker also said that it has created a proprietary technology to handle a variety of tasks for Snapdragon 810. There will be eight CPU processors of varying sizes and shall have different tasks inside the OnePlus Two.
It further explained that one or two of the larger processors would be used for gaming that is heavy on graphics while the small processor would be used for simple SMS. The company said that it is one of the features of the ROM of its upcoming smartphone, intuitively knowing which processor should be used for what task thereby ensuring that no processor is overworked and thus prevent any overheating.
Long overdue for release
There have been reports of late that the Chinese smartphone maker will be launching its next flagship handset either in September or October this year.
The pronouncement came no less from Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, when he was asked recently why there was no update or anything at all about OnePlus Two during the company’s “Time to Change” event on June 1.
Pei said that while OnePlus Two was already long overdue for release, he said that the company wanted to make sure that the successor to the OnePlus One is being designed carefully to live up to its reputation as another flagship killer.
