OnePlus made a great entry on the smartphone market, and even though they let some of their popularity slip away due to some mistakes, they eventually managed to regain their solid position. Currently, many people are waiting for the release of the OnePlus 4, and the device is enjoying some interesting, heated discussions in forums.
It’s expected to arrive in April 2017, according to the latest rumors, and the specifications of the device have raised some eyebrows in the Android community. OnePlus have generally enjoyed making their devices very powerful and capable of handling some serious tasks, but this time they’re likely going to outdo themselves, if the most popular rumors are to be believed.
One of the more highly anticipated features is 3D touch, something which has been mentioned in multiple rumors about the OnePlus 4 already. In addition to that, it may arrive with 6 to 8 GB of RAM, a fast processor, and a display with a very high resolution that additionally supports some advanced touch capabilities. And no, this is apparently not the same as 3D touch, but a separate technology entirely.
Last but not least, there are some very attractive rumors about the camera capabilities of the new smartphone, and if the rumors of a 23 megapixel sensor turn out to be true, this could easily be the best shooter on the market in its price range.
Speaking of the price, the device is expected to cost around $400 for the base model, an offer which many customers would find hard to beat. The original OnePlus One already built a good name for itself as a device worth every penny, and if the company manages to keep the OnePlus 4 within reasonable bounds, it should enjoy a lot of popularity all over the market.
OnePlus are actually in a particularly good position to release such a device right now, as their main competitor is in serious trouble. The issues with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 have opened up the doors to many competitors to try their hand at the Android market more aggressively, and we wouldn’t be surprised if OnePlus specifically tried to capitalize on the situation in their marketing in some way.
They won’t even have to do that themselves though, as the market is already doing a fine job criticizing Samsung and ruining their chances of success in the future. At the very least, they can’t release another Note device anytime soon. The fate of the Galaxy line as a whole has been brought under question by some as well, though it might be a bit of an exaggeration to think that broadly.
But in any case, the point stands – OnePlus have a lot of freedom in the release of their next device, and they should definitely try to pull in some of Samsung’s disappointed customers. Considering that we have practically no official information about the OnePlus 4 at the moment, the company can easily make changes to its design and specifications behind the scenes in order to better match what the previous Note 7 users were looking for.
It will be an interesting period in this corner of the market, that’s for sure. Hardly anyone expected a giant like Samsung to be dethroned by such a silly incident. It looks like Samsung didn’t expect it either, and that might have been their main issue, as their response to the situation was the biggest problem according to some critics.
