The English-Irish boy band One Direction is basically categorized under the pop segment of the international music industry. That is precisely the reason why teenage girls swoon over them like their some sort of cute little teddy bears from somewhere.
A good number of bands in the past have passed the same route that One Direction is now threading. Most of them have just had a fleeting moment with fame and popularity because they failed to recognize the need to be versatile and be multi-dimensional in their kind of music.
One Direction, on the other hand, recognizes it and the band is starting to think of options including its possible transformation from merely being a pop group to a classic rock band, whose durability is certainly much longer.
The good thing about One Direction is that they are versatile and talented enough to give a rendition of classic rock music, if they choose to. The band also loves classic rock music so that’s a plus too.
In previous performances, they have done song renditions of classic rock bands including Queen, the Who, the Clash, Green Day, U2, Journey and Bon Jovi, details MTV.
Preparing the groundwork for transformation
In what appears to be One Direction’s preparations for its eventual evolution from a mere pop boy band into possibly being a classic rock band, it has recently forged a studio collaboration with Chad Kroeger of Nickelback.
Kroeger is a Canadian rocker and amazing songwriter who have written songs for rock groups Santana and Daughtry, and rock musicians Tim McGraw and Avril Lavigne.
Former Daughtry drummer Robin Diaz made a disclosure of this alliance by posting on January 30 a photo on Twitter of Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne with Chad Kroeger, himself, and another guy in a studio somewhere in West Hollywood.
It was not clear whether the other One Direction boy band members were with Louis and Liam during the studio rehearsal but it is likely that Kroeger and Diaz were giving them pointers on guitars and drums and other music instruments. And it is also very unlikely if Louis and Liam were doing it on their own and eventually planning to go into rock classic after they’re through with One Direction.
Looking for options
Robin’s tweet mentioned that Kroeger was creating hits with Louis and Liam but he did not specify what kind of hits the four of them were working together.
Kroeger is the songwriter behind the chart-topping hits “How You Remind Me,” “Someday,” “Something in Your Mouth,” and “Bottoms Up.” With the collaboration with One Direction in the works, it seems likely that Chad will have another chart-topper on the way.
Before partnering with Chad Kroeger, One Direction also hooked up with another classic rock group Fall Out Boy but the partnership looked odd to make it sellable to the international music industry so they discontinued it right off the bat.
Then there’s Harry Styles collaborating with Meghan Trainor for the song “Someday Maybe,” which would likely be released soon if not later.
