Season 5 of the American fairy tale drama TV series “Once Upon a Time” will premiere on ABC on September 27 and will pick up from where it left off from the Season 4 finale, particularly the transition of Emma, played by Jennifer Morrison, to the dark side.
Show creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Hororwitz hinted that bringing back Emma into the light will be the central theme of the fifth season of the series and it is likely that the character may spend a good deal of time in the dark side for most of Season 5.
The surprising news is that the previously evil and now good Regina, played by Lana Parrilla, will be the one trying to bring Emma back into the light, notes the Christian Post.
During the ComicCon 2015, the actress was asked if there will be a role reversal for Emma as a result of her coming into the dark side, and she confirmed that there is. She also disclosed that everyone will look for Regina for guidance and help and that her character in the series will have a huge impact in bringing Emma back into the light.
First three episodes revealed
While the fifth season is still more than a month away from hitting the small screen, the first three episodes of “Once Upon a Time” have already been revealed, or at least their titles that is.
From the looks of it, fans and viewers will likely follow the characters in the enchanted forest and not in the modern day Storybrooke.
The premiere episode is titled ‘The Dark Swan,’ followed by ‘The Prince,’ and the third is to be called ‘Seige Perilous.’
According to Enstarz, a royal ball in Camelot will be the highlight of the second episode, which was confirmed no less by showrunners Kitsis and Horowitz.
The co-creators were even quoted as saying that the second episode is so unlike anything that they have done on the show before because of its spectacular and fantastic costume design.
Reports also have it that the ball will have a special guest but both Kitsis and Horowitz refuse to divulge further details, although they spoke about a theory going around these days that it could be Merida, played by Amy Manson.
They said that the show is where the Wicked Witch is sisters with the Evil Queen and they also know Cruella DeVil, so it would be a bummer if it has King Arthur and he never gets to meet Merida. They also added that there is a mash-up quality in what Merida’s going through, what is happening in Camelot, what is happening with King Arthur, and what is happening with all the characters of the show.
Kitsis and Horowitz also talked about the brewing bromance between Charming, played by Josh Dallas, and King Arthur, played by Liam Garrigan. Season 5 will feature how their relationship comes to be and that it would be as special as the relationship between Arthur and Guinevere.
Old and new characters
Season 5 of “Once Upon a Time” will also see new characters as well as returning old ones. The returning ones include Sinqua Walls as Lancelot, Elliot Knight as Merlin, Joanna Metrass as Guinevere, Andrew Jenkins as Percival, Gabe Kouth as Sneezy/Tom Clark, and Lee Arenberg as Grumpy/Dreamy/Leroy.
Also returning are Beverly Elliot who plays Widow Lucas/Granny and Keegan Connor Tracy who plays the Blue Fairy and also doubles as Mother Superior.
“Once Upon a Time” takes place in the fictional seaside town of Storybrooke, Maine, whose residents are characters from various fairy tales that were transported to the real world town and robbed of their memories by a powerful curse.
