During the Season 4 finale of the American fairy tale drama TV series “Once Upon a Time” on ABC, Emma Swan, played by Jennifer Morrison, has transitioned to the dark side.
Season 5 of the show will pick up where the show left off and during the teaser of the TV series shown during the D23 Expo held in Anaheim, California last weekend, it featured the attempt of Captain Hook, played by Colin O’Donoghue to summon a newly-turned Emma with the Dark One’s dagger, details ABC.
The TV show had a panel at the D23 Expo which they called “Once Upon a Time: An Evening with Snow White & The Evil Queen” featuring Snow White, played by Ginnifer Goodwin, and The Evil Queen Regina, played by Lana Parrilla.
Bringing Emma back
The dagger’s rules state that Captain Hook can summon the Dark One in any corner of the world, but his attempt proves unsuccessful, which means that Emma was not in their world in Storybrooke.
It could be recalled that Emma asked her parents Snow and Charming, played by Josh Dallas, with taking the darkness out of her even as Hook begged her to not to go through with it. But Emma went with it just the same and she was pulled into a vortex and was taken away somewhere.
The teaser actually showed Regina, Robin, Hook, Henry, Snow, and Charming reflecting on Emma’s disappearance. And interestingly, Regina gets sassy by calling Hook as ‘Guyliner,’ cites The Mary Sue.
It was actually Regina who saw the problem right away. Because it was Emma’s effort to save her that she turned into the dark side, Regina will obviously play a crucial role in the upcoming season to bring Emma back.
Central theme for Season 5
Show creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Hororwitz hinted that bringing back Emma into the light will be the central theme of the fifth season of the series and it is likely that the character may spend a good deal of time in the dark side for most of Season 5.
The surprising news is that the previously evil and now good Regina will be the one trying to bring Emma back into the light.
During the ComicCon 2015, the actress was asked if there will be a role reversal for Emma as a result of her coming into the dark side, and she confirmed that there is. She also disclosed that everyone will look for Regina for guidance and help and that her character in the series will have a huge impact in bringing Emma back into the light.
While the fifth season is still more than a month away from hitting the small screen, the first three episodes of “Once Upon a Time” has already been revealed, or at least their titles that is.
From the looks of it, fans and viewers will likely follow the characters in the enchanted forest and not in the modern day Storybrooke.
The premiere episode is titled ‘The Dark Swan,’ followed by ‘The Prince,’ and the third is to be called ‘Seige Perilous.’
A royal ball in Camelot will be the highlight of the second episode, which was confirmed no less by showrunners Kitsis and Horowitz.
The co-creators were even quoted as saying that the second episode is so unlike anything that they have done on the show before because of its spectacular and fantastic costume design.
Reports also have it that the ball will have a special guest but both Kitsis and Horowitz refuse to divulge further details, although they spoke about a theory going around these days that it could be Merida, played by Amy Manson.
