The midseason premiere of Season 5 of the American fairy tale drama TV series “Once Upon a Time” was aired on ABC on March 6 and most of the previous reports and teasers about the show were pretty much confirmed.
The only thing that came as a surprise to most fans of the popular TV series is the setting of Underworld. Based on the Disney films and also in comic books, the Underworld is something eerie and dark. However, in “Once Upon a Time,” the Underworld is actually Storybrooke itself with a red hue.
Instead of using a sepia or gray for a camera lens filter, it seems that the producers decided on using red but it does not look eerie at all. It’s still the same old Storybrooke but in a different color, notes TV.com.
But consistent with previous reports, there were a ton of returning characters on “Once Upon a Time” Season 5 midseason premiere, which had the title “Souls of the Departed.”
It’s also nice to see that the first to return was Michael Raymond James and his character Neal Cassidy. He was the first to be seen by Emma when she woke up in a garbage heap.
Emma, later on, realized that they were already in the Underworld and she was there along with her companions to rescue Hook who happens to be imprisoned by Hades. However, they were not able to do so as Hook was kept somewhere in the Underworld where he can hardly be found.
Labor of love
It would appear that Hook will be the focal point of the next episode of Season 5 of “Once Upon a Time.” Based on the teaser trailer of episode 12 of the TV series entitled “Labor of Love,” Hook will finally be featured in his Underworld ambiance.
He will also attempt to help fellow prisoner Megara, played by Kacey Rohl, escape with him. However, they were stopped short by a hellbeast, details TV Line.
Mary Margaret will search for Hercules, who happens to be her old childhood friend. Hercules is to be played by Jonathan Whitesell, and he knows how to defeat the hellbeast.
But when Mary Margaret finds Hercules, she would realize that Hercules is no longer the hero he once was so it would be interesting how Hook and Megara would measure up to the hellbeast without any possible help from someone who has already defeated it in the past.
Also on the next episode, to air on ABC on March 13, the Enchanted Forest flashback will see a young Snow White, played by Bailee Madison, struggling to preserve peace in her kingdom and she must learn how to be a true hero if she still entertains notion that she wants to become a queen one day.
A birthday celebration
During episode 11, Regina had some bickerings with Snow White and killed some randos in the process. Regina was celebrating her 29th birthday so she had a berry pie, using her fingers to taste it.
Cora, the Mayor the Underworld, played by veteran actress Barbara Hershey is also good after Regina took all the darkness out of her heart. Meanwhile, over at Granny’s, Snow White experienced her first open-mouthed kiss but the lusty kisser was not David but James.
In an important development, even before “Once Upon a Time” aired its Season 5 midseason premiere on March 6, the show has already been renewed for Season 6.
It was series co-creator Adam Horowitz who proudly made the announcement of the show’s renewal on his Twitter account when he posted on March 3 that he is thrilled to announce that “Once Upon a Time” has been picked up for Season 6. Horowitz also thanked ABC and the show’s most extraordinary fans for the important milestone for the show.
