Official Unveiling of Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Deferred to Mid-May, More Details

Early last month, there have been reports that Microsoft will be officially launching the latest iteration of its laptop/tablet combination Surface Pro 4 during the recently-concluded Microsoft Build Developers Conference 2015 held at San Francisco, California from April 29 to May 1.

While many of the attendees were eagerly looking forward to the unveiling of the new device, the Redmondian company apparently did not showcase anything at all during the event.

Latest word has it that Microsoft has just deferred the official debut of the Surface Pro 4 to mid-May with hardly any explanation as to the reason why.

Had Microsoft officially unveiled the Surface Pro 4 during the Build Developers Conference 2015, the device could have certainly drew so much attention from many of the key players in the international tech community. It would have also saved the Redmondian company a lot of money doing so than coming up with its own independent grand event in mid-May to launch the device.

Not ready

There were hints that the Surface Pro 4 was simply not ready for the Build Developers Conference 2015 that Microsoft decided to withhold its unveiling until it was sure that device is already ready, cites Techno Buffalo.

Or maybe Microsoft is planning to pull off a major surprise that is why it decided to hold an independent launching event in mid-May.

There were also reports in the past that the Surface Pro 4 will officially hit the retail markets in July and when it comes out of the box, it would already have the Windows 10 on it out of the box. It is possible that upon its official launching in mid-May, it still won’t have the Windows 10 onboard but perhaps upon its roll out to the retail markets around July, it will already sport the latest Windows operating system.

Features and specifications

Initial reports indicate that Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is more energy efficient compared to its predecessor, the Surface Pro 3, but the trade off is that it is weaker in performance than the latter.

Accordingly, the Surface Pro 4 has dropped the Haswell Dual-Core i5 and i7 Intel processors in favor of the new Intel Core M Broadwell chip, which is the same processor used by the new Apple MacBook and several other ultra-slim and fan-less laptops.

Despite being new, the Intel Core M Broadwell chip is obviously less powerful when compared to the Haswell Dual-Core i5 or i7 processors, which the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 uses.

However, the positive uptake on the Broadwell processor is that it is more energy efficient than the i5 or i7 chips and is quantified to have a 30% energy efficiency.
