George R.R Martin finally broke his silence about Winds of Winter, the sixth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series. The book is speculated to release on February 2015. However, the author was uncannily silent about the progress and plot of the book.
Martin recently made an appearance at 92nd Street Y’s theatre to talk about his new books, “The World of Ice and Fire” and Winds of Winter, the sixth book in the “A Song of Fire and Ice” saga.
Fans have been waiting since 2011, when ‘A Dance with Dragons’ released. They have been waiting for over three years for the sixth book in the series, but no official dates have been announced. There is only a mere speculation that George R.R Martin has asked Bantam Books to push back the mid-2015 deadline.
Martin spoke about allegations that there have been no updates from him about the plot or the release date of Winds of Winter. He said that it was a difficult part deciding what to reveal and what to withhold. He has fans constantly asking him about the different characters and plot lines, but he will not until speak out about them until the time is right. The top question being asked is about Jon Snow’s paternity. Martin knows the answer but will disclose it later in the series.
Fans feel that this series is a major deal breaker for George R.R Martin, and he shouldn’t have focused on other projects instead of completing Winds of Winter. Martin responded to this by saying that initially he had nothing to interrupt him, but now he has to travel constantly and give interviews. He doesn’t write while flying or staying in a hotel. He needs to be at home to commence writing. Hence the lack of progress!
Winds of Winter will be written from Arya Stark’s perspective. She will train under the tutelage of Izembaro, in the land of Braavos, to become an assassin. Arya Stark will meet the imposter who is pretending to be her. She is Sansa’s friend, Jeyne Poole, now married to the bastard, Ramsay Bolton. She visits Braavos along with Ser Justin Massey and meets Arya there.
“The World of Ice and Fire” will deal with the history of Westeros, Essos and the surrounding landscape. The book will have stunning art by painter Marc Simonetti.
