And while some like to point out that the treatment the developers have been getting is a bit unfair due to the small size of their studio, those claims are a bit questionable in light of the support they got from Sony in their marketing.
It’s technically true that the actual development of the game was handled by a relatively small-sized team, but when they had the backing of one of the most powerful companies on the market, and virtually unlimited resources for marketing, it’s a different story.
It was perhaps this heavy-handed approach to marketing that doomed the game from the beginning. Some claim that it could have survived if it was released as an ambitious project by a small indie studio, with the developers staying quiet for most of its development. Or at least not talking about nonexistent features.
The price of the game was a point of criticism for many as well, as it was priced like a full-scale AAA title. While at the same time, the value of its contents was questionable compared to some other titles priced at this level. Maybe the game can survive with some additional patches and content updates by the developers in the near future, accompanied by a good price drop, but we don’t really see it recovering soon. The reputation of a failed release is practically impossible to salvage in the gaming industry.
