Following the backlash “No Man’s Sky” has received, Hello Games has been quiet in the past few months regarding speculations of a major update for the game.
Reports have claimed that the update might come early next month based on the transitioning that happened with the foundation update released last November, as well as what data miners have gathered since January.
The update added the ability for players to identify a planet as a home planet, as well as construct a base on that planet from modular components created from collected resources.
The foundation update also added two new play modes named survival mode and creative mode. Survival mode is similar to the standard gameplay, but with a more difficult stage.
Creative mode removes much of the game’s mechanics that can kill the player’s characters, and gives them unlimited resources for constructing bases.
Through its Twitter account, Hello Games promised ardent gamers that the foundation update would be just the first of many more layers of additions coming into the game.
Speculations say that the game’s update will include vertical boosters for vehicles, a jet engine, and mounted guns, which will all be upgraded using existing in-game technologies.
Players might also be getting an ATV within the game by building a specialist vehicle terminal and hire a mechanic before completing some missions to source components required to construct a buggy.
According to AutoWorld News, the alleged types of land vehicles are as follows: ATV Jetpack Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, ATV Tune-up Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, ATV Storage, and lastly, ATV Photon Cannon Alpha, Beta, and Gamma.
Forbes gaming writer Paul Tassi notes that it took four months between the game’s launch and the release of the next update, so Hello Games was probably working on a similar turnaround time for a March release of an update.
The action-adventure survival video game was released worldwide in August last year for PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows.
The gameplay was built on four pillars: exploration, survival, combat, and trading. Players are free to perform within the entirety of a procedurally generated open universe, which includes over 18 quintillion planets.
Players participate in a shared universe, with the ability to exchange planet information with other players. The game is also playable offline.
The player can collect, repair, and refuel the craft, allowing them to travel about the planet, between other planets and space stations in the local solar system, engage in space combat with alien factions, or make hyperspace jumps to other star systems
While the game is open-ended, the player may follow the guidance of the entity known as the Atlas to head towards the center of the galaxy
The game was hyped upon its release. It received a wide range of mixed reviews, praising the technical achievements, but noting its lackluster gameplay.
“No Man’s Sky” also suffered technical problems upon launch, lacking several marketed features marring game players’ experience.
Due to limited multiplayer aspects, Sony does not require PlayStation 4 users to have a PlayStation Plus subscription to play the game online.
Hello Games has expressed their commitment to fixing the game’s technical issues, as well as expand the game’s features in time.
The game was initially a top seller upon its release but immediately plummeted to an overwhelmingly negative level in the following months.
Further fueling the rumors that Hello Games will launch a new update for “No Man’s Sky” next month is the fact that the game’s lead programmer, Sean Murray, will make his first public appearance after the video game’s controversial release.
