Nintendo ‘Splatoon’ on Wii U Latest Update Features New Football-Like Game Mode

Nintendo’s latest update on the third-person shooter video game “Splatoon” on Wii U has been released on July 1. The update is called Tower Control and it features a new game mode which enable gamers to ride the tower to the opponents goal.

The gameplay includes jumping onto the center, placing a tower on the map, and moving towards the other team’s goal. The contest is finished when time runs out, and the team closest to its opponent’s goal wins.

Previous updates on “Splatoon” were also made on June 1, where Nintendo made some refinements on the game’s map and weapons. These updates include a fire shooter which is not highly damaging to the opponent, but comes in handy with splat bombs that can be used to fill the player’s territory.

“Splatoon” was released on May 29 on the Wii U, and since then, Nintendo has made several updates to the game. It features half-squid half-human characters that use ink loaded weapons to fight for territory.

In addition to the basic gameplay, “Splatoon” offers other game modes, one of which is the Rainmaker. The gamer’s task in this particular mode is to find the rainmaker and carry it to the opponent’s team. If gamers run out of time or get splatted, they will drop the rainmaker and have to return in order to start all over again.

“Splatoon” offers a variety of choices. There are online lobbies, a single player campaign, a 4-on-4 multiplayer campaign, and additional maps.

As a third-person shooter video game, “Splatoon” offers a 3D vision of the player character. Unlike the first-person shooter, where the view in the game is not blocked by the avatar, the third-person view allows an over-the-shoulder view. This gives a more lively experience of the game to the player.

Nintendo released the game on May 28 in Japan for the Wii U gaming platform. Other release dates include North America, where the game was rolled out on May 29, and in Australia on May 30.

The characters of “Splatoon” are the Inklings which can transform into human and squid forms. The Inklings swim and hide through ink sprayed paths with the use of weapons in the form of brushes.

One of the criticized aspects of the game is the online matchmaking option and the absence of online lobbies option. Apparently Nintendo has created a locking option which makes the players unable to practice in the game until they find a match, which presents a problem to gamers.

“Splatoon” is a team-based game that uses territory branding as its main feature. Players have to avoid the ink paths made by other players and mark territory with their own ink.

The gameplay consists of shape-shifting Inklings transforming into human or squid forms. When the Inkling is human, it can shoot ink from its weapons in the color of its team. When transformed into a squid, the Inkling can move through its colored territory. This gives the Inkling the possibility to swim through colored ink undetected. The pathways can even be walls and other obstacles.

If the Inkling wants to go through enemy ink, it can do so in humanoid form, but significantly slower than in its own ink pathways. In squid form, the player cannot swim through enemy colored pathways. The ink weapons can be used to splat the enemies, in which case the enemy is sent back to its respawn point.

Another important feature of the game is the map which gives the player an ability to view across the surroundings, find a teammate Inkling and launch towards its location.
