Nina Dobrev’s Elena Gilbert Character Bids Goodbye to “The Vampire Diaries” Season 6

The current sixth season of “The Vampire Diaries” will be the final one for Nina Dobrev’s Elena Gilbert character.

Nina Dobrev has formally quit the American supernatural drama TV series on The CW, and the show just had to retire her character in a near-future episode.

In the upcoming episode 18 to be aired on April 16, Elena Gilbert and Damon will finally agree to start a family of their own. It is still not clear if her leaving for good to concentrate on making her own family will be played up as a possible plot to retire her character for good from the TV series.

Nina Dobrev’s final appearance in “The Vampire Diaries” Season 6 as Elena Gilbert will air on May 14. Though at this point, no details are available as to how the writers will simply write off Elena’s character on episode 22 of the TV series.

The actress says that she is just trying to be consistent with her character. She says that she always wanted Elena’s story to be a six-season adventure, reports Yahoo! News.

Journey of a lifetime

Within those six years, Nina says that she got the journey of lifetime through Elena Gilbert’s character.

She recounted that Elena was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, and a human pretending to be a doppelganger, in the sixth season the character has been in the show.

Over the course of six season, Elena was also kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, dead and undead, but apparently the show still has a few more things in store for the character before she finally say goodbye to the series.

Nina also described that Elena fell in love not just once but twice. She also had two epic soulmates in the TV series. Finally, she indulges fans to hop on the roller coaster ride that is Elena Gilbert’s life and continue following “The Vampire Diaries.”

The 26-year-old actress is also thankful for meeting a lot of new friends in the series which she considers her work family, as she moves on to the next chapter of her life.

Series directors

Nina Dobrev has been helming the show alongside former lover Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley since 2009.

On her Instagram post on April 6, Nina says that she really enjoyed a goodbye party with her fellow cast and crew members on Georgia’s Lake Lanier during the Easter holiday.

She also added in her post that she wanted to be the first to tell fans that what happened during the weekend was not just a holiday celebration, but a goodbye party as well. She addressed her followers as her Dearest “The Vampire Diaries” Family.

Nina also shared a photo from the weekend event, which showed her and Julie Plec, creator and showrunner, hugging warmly.

She captioned the image by saying that she wanted to share the goodbye with all of her fans and followers. Nina also expressed her profound gratitude to the wonderful fandom of “The Vampire Diaries” for giving her more love, support, and passion than anyone could have ever imagined seven years ago.
