When Nina Dobrev left the American supernatural drama TV series “The Vampire Diaries” after its Season 6 finale last year, she was preparing herself for more acting assignments, especially on films.
Unfortunately, the breaks did not come her way during the past year which made her look back at her decision to leave the TV series that made her very popular in the first place.
It is most likely the reason also that when “The Vampire Diaries” executive producer Julie Plec offered Nina the opportunity to return to the TV series for its upcoming Season 8, she no longer refused and decided to take the offer.
It seems that “The Vampire Diaries” is the show that is bringing her luck as an actress as reports have it that Nina Dobrev already started filming for the reboot of “Flatliners” in Toronto, Canada, a few days ago.
The 27-year-old actress is reportedly set to take on the female role played by Julia Roberts during the original “Flatliners” movie released in August 1990, reports Yibada.
Dobrev shall reportedly play the character named Marlo in “Flatliners,” a horror sci-fi drama film about medical students experimenting on near-death experiences.
The original “Flatliners” film starred Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, Oliver Platt, Benjamin Mouton, Joshua Rudoy, Julia Roberts, Kimberly Scott, and Hope Davis, among others. The movie was written by Peter Filardi and directed by acclaimed director Joel Schumacher.
Around or after the time of filming, Kiefer Sutherland and Julia Roberts even became a romantic couple.
Incidentally, Kiefer Sutherland has been confirmed to join the cast of the “Flatliners” remake to be directed by Niels Arden Oplev. Sutherland shall take on the role of a veteran doctor in the reboot whose screenplay is to be written by Ben Ripley, based on the script by Stephen Susco.
The “Flatliners” remake shall also star James Norton, Diego Luna, Kiersey Clemons and Ellen Page.
Reuniting early
With the confirmation of the return of Nina Dobrev in Season 8 of “The Vampire Diaries,” it has become clear that her character Elena Gilbert shall have a rekindling of romance with the character of former real-life boyfriend Ian Somerhalder, Damon Salvatore.
While there are rumors saying that Dobrev might take on a different character in her return other than Elena Gilbert, it is clear that the reason why “The Vampire Diaries” was such a big hit in the rating game during its first six seasons is because of “Delena” and shippers would really love to see them together again.
However, there are reports going around lately saying that Dobrev will be taking on the role of Sybil in “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 instead of Elena Gilbert or Katherine as in the past seasons of the TV series.
Based on rumors, Sybil is an immortal who uses her immeasurable power and influence to control other people. Accordingly, Dobrev’s new character is not friendly just like Katherine, who was described as the most ruthless, notorious, and infamous vampire in history.
“The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 is to premiere on The CW on October 21 and it seems that the reunion of Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore, or at least the actors portraying their respective roles, will come early.
Reports have it that “The Vampire Diaries” shall have a presentation panel in the upcoming San Diego ComicCon late next week and the TV series shall be headlined by Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, no less, reports the Parent Herald.
The actor already confirmed his attendance at the July 21 event. Shortly thereafter, reports came out that his ex-flame Nina Dobrev shall also be attending the 2016 San Diego ComicCon.
But there are also speculations that Nina Dobrev would be at the event to represent another show, which remains undisclosed as of this time.
