Next Generation Motorola Moto 2, Dubbed Moto E2, Could Have Been Leaked in FCC Listing!

The release of the 2nd generation of Motorola’s Moto E is still a mystery, although journalists have managed to put some pieces together recently, and we seem to be getting some signs about the upcoming phone. As much as some companies might try to be secretive about their releases, it’s never possible to hide submissions to the FCC once they’ve been made, so many journalists have learned to keep an eye on recent FCC filings for possible hints about upcoming devices.

Recently, a listing has appeared about a new Motorola device, with the model name IHDT56QF1. Motorola aren’t rumored to be preparing any major release other than the E2 so soon, so it’s very likely that this is indeed their new smartphone. The device’s specifications are still not known, but there have been several rumors in this regard, and some have come up more than once, giving a good indication that they could be credible.

The new phone is rumored to support 4.0 Bluetooth and Wi-FI b/g/n, which by itself doesn’t say much other than the fact that Motorola are planning to keep it in line with modern trends in wireless connectivity. The FCC listing gives the device’s dimensions as 2.64 x 5.11 inches, spanning 5.39 across the diagonal.

Which, as some Motorola fans could possibly have noticed, is a bit unusual, as the company has never released a device with similar dimensions before. It’s possible that there is something more special about the new Moto E2 that we don’t know yet, but until the phone is officially shown by Motorola, we probably won’t know.

The screen size has led some to believe that this is not the new E2, but another device that Motorola have been developing in secret. Whether this is true or not, we’ll likely find out in the coming weeks if the device has already been submitted to the FCC. Motorola have been very successful in their releases lately, so whatever they’re working on right now, it could very well be a successful entry into the market.

With a screen like that, it could even be a more major release than a budget phone (which the Moto E was). However, if the company really has been working on a new flagship and they’ve managed to keep it a secret for so long, that would be very unusual. We would have heard at least some rumors about the upcoming device, though on the other hand it’s possible that these rumors did come up at some point, but got ignored in the whirlwind of contradicting information that sometimes tends to flood the tech news world in bursts.
