If we could define the current era in the automobile market with just one word, we would probably have to go with “safety” – it wouldn’t be “performance”, nor “style”, not even “power”, as the most important feature that all major auto makers are concerned with right now is the safety of their passengers. This can be seen in various sides of the market right now, but the general trend is that computers are starting to take over different aspects of the driving experience in order to make it safer and more predictable.
While some companies are trying to take this to the extreme level right from the start by attempting to design self-driving cars, others are just adding smaller features to their cars which make them easier to drive and safer on the road in various conditions. The new Honda Civic is a good example, featuring “Agile Handling Assist” in order to help the driver get the most from their car on the road, maximizing its performance and stability in various circumstances.
The system specifically works by modulating the brake and acceleration input during difficult conditions, like taking a sharp turn or accelerating on a slippery surface, in order to ensure that the car stays on course instead of slipping away. This obviously involves a lot of complicated calculations in the background, and wouldn’t be possible without the onboard computer of the car.
Another benefit of the system is that it improves the way the braking pedal feels, making it more responsive and overall slightly more comfortable on longer road trips. It’s obvious that Honda have been paying attention to the smaller details in the design of the new Civic, and it’s also clear that they have been keeping an eye on online discussions about their cars as well.
Much like the company’s other models, this one also has the gas tank under the front seats, optimizing the use of space in the design of the car, and making things even better with the “magic seat” configuration that the company already uses.
The rear seats can be reconfigured in various ways in order to adjust the car for carrying extra luggage or other similar operations, or they can simply be left in their original position in order to give riders the ultimate experience in terms of comfort and relaxation during the ride. In the end, the space could be used as an alternate loading area if the trunk is limited, which could be a problem according to some reviewers, at least if the car is taken on a longer road trip with more luggage.
