“Battlefield Hardline: Ultimate Edition” was supposed to give players easy and convenient access to the game’s new DLC as it’s coming out, but right now players on the PlayStation 4 have been reporting trouble trying to play the latest “Criminal Activity’ DLC for the game. Apparently, players were locked out of the game for a while, and the issue seemed quite severe.
The problem has been going on for over a week, and even though EA were reportedly hard at work trying to get the issue sorted out as quickly as possible, their fans were quite displeased in the end. It’s no wonder anyway, as the “Ultimate Edition” is the most expensive version of the game, and players buying it have some higher expectation of quality than with the base game. And when we’re seeing a situation like this, some players might think twice before investing in another “Battlefield” game later on.
The game’s forums were practically on fire during the peak of the problem, as players were actively voicing their displeasure with the situation and kept calling out EA and DICE. For what it’s worth though, the issue is limited to the PS4 edition of the game so it’s possible that there is a problem on Sony’s end as well.
Without an official comment from EA explaining the problem, we wouldn’t know what the issue was, and of course we don’t expect that we will see a completely thorough explanation of what exactly happened. A member of the development team, Zach Mumbach, posted on the official forums to apologize to the game’s fans and reassure them that the studio is doing everything they can to get the issue sorted out as quickly as possible.
Players have already started asking for refunds from Sony however, so it looks like the situation is getting more and more complicated by the day. This can leave a lasting mark on the franchise, which is already on shaky grounds since its last installment, and it could spell disaster for any future releases under the “Battlefield” brand.
Meanwhile, another title by the studio, the new “Star Wars: Battlefront” has been in the middle of a controversial spotlight, as players didn’t enjoy some of the changes to the game’s core formula and have been displeased with EA’s new direction for it. Still, the game offers some entertaining gameplay and it does its job quite good for the most part, but it does have some glaring issues which fans are not going to get over anytime soon.
