It’s not rare that sites like IMDB reveal information about an upcoming release that hasn’t been made public yet – sometimes it happens by accident, sometimes companies like to do this to generate some hype and remind people that their product exists. In the case of “Mortal Kombat X”, it’s more realistic to believe the former case, but whatever happened here, one thing is clear in the end – we now know a little more about the cast of characters that will be featured in the new fighting game!
This happened thanks to a recent update of the game’s page on the website, where the voice actors for some of the characters have been posted. In the list, we can see Liu Kang and Mileena, which confirms that these two will be in the game. Among the voice actors, Phil Lamarr will be providing the voice of Kotal Kahn (which should come as no surprise to anyone). Kenshi can also be seen in the character list, which should be good news for some fans, as the inclusion of his character has been the subject of some speculation recently.
It’s worth noting that Kenshi was only available as part of a DLC package in the last game, and it’s not clear whether his role will change for “Mortal Kombat X” – but it’s entirely possible that he might be included in the main story now.
Fans will also see Kabal returning, however his voice actor hasn’t been listed yet. And, it also seems that the developers are digging deeper into the roots of the series for inspiration, as they are reintroducing characters from as far back as “Mortal Kombat 4”, with the return of Shinnok being hinted by the game’s IMDB page.
So far, the cast of the game is shaping up to be really interesting and well thought out. Other than the main combat mechanics, this is the one feature that can make or break a fighting game, and it’s important to not only keep a fresh cast with a varied list of abilities, but also give fans some sense of continuity throughout the series, by bringing back older characters that have become forgotten. It seems that the development of “Mortal Kombat X” is being done with this in mind to a large extent, so it’s looking hopeful that the game will end up good.
Of course, this is no official confirmation – but the cases where characters for a game or film have been revealed through the cast list of IMDB and this has later turned out to be wrong have been very few throughout history, so it’s reasonable to believe that this is indeed the real list of characters.
