The longest-running American police procedural crime drama TV series “NCIS” shall be returning to CBS on September 20 this year for its Season 14.
High among the rumors about the popular TV series is the entry of actor Wilmer Valderrama as a series regular since he will be filling the huge void following the departure of Michael Weatherly, who played Anthony DiNozzo in the TV series over the last 13 seasons.
The producers and showrunners have not yet disclosed the character to be played by Valderrama but based on previous speculations, he would be playing a once grounded NCIS field agent who accepted a deep cover assignment several years ago but never resurfaced, details Heavy.
According to executive producer Gary Glasberg, Wilmer Valderrama will be able to flex his dramatic, physical, and comedic talents in the classic “NCIS” role. But it is likely that fans are going to see him like they have never seen him before.
A busybody on TV
Wilmer Valderrama is a very busy person when it comes to acting on the small screen. He recently had a recurring role in “Grey’s Anatomy” on ABC depicting a patient with multiple sclerosis.
The actor also starred in other short-lived TV series including the “Minority Report” on Fox. His other TV appearances include “From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series,” “Awake,” and Disney Channel’s “Handy Manny.”
Valderrama also had roles in movies including “The Adderall Diaries,” “Larry Crowne,” “From Prada to Nada,” “Fast Food Nation,” and “The Dry Land.”
The actor shall be joining the cast of “NCIS” Season 14 along with co-stars Pauley Perrette, Sean Murray, Rocky Carroll, and David McCallum.
The two other series regulars, Brian Dietzen, and Emily Wickersham are on a different contract cycle. Harmon, Perrette, and McCallum have been with the show since it began in the fall of 2003.
According to reports, “NCIS” shall be taking on a new female series regular for its Season 14. The show brought Sarah Clarke from “24” and British Actor Duane Henry during the final two episodes of Season 13.
Renewed for Season 15
Although Season 14 of the popular TV series has yet to premiere on CBS, the show has already been green-lighted until Season 15, reports the Hall of Fame Magazine.
Actor Mark Harmon, who plays Leroy Jethro Gibbs on “NCIS,” has reportedly signed a two-year deal with the network and the producers which are the reasons why the show was approved until Season 15.
Wilmer Valderrama shall be playing the role of a former secret agent with a charismatic but unpredictable character.
Glasberg said in a recent interview that he and the crew are already excited to work with Wilmer Valderrama. He added that Valderrama will get a chance to stretch his acting talents on “NCIS” Season 14.
The showrunner said that fans shall see the actor going to do something that they have never seen him do it before.
Glasberg also felt bad when Michael Weatherly left the TV series after being tapped to play the role of Dr. Jason Bull in the upcoming TV series on CBS titled “Bull” set to premiere later this year. The series actually revolves around the life of Dr. Phil McGraw.
“NCIS” was voted America’s most favorite TV show in 2011. The show wrapped up its Season 10 as the most-watched TV series in the US during the 2012-13 TV season.
The TV series follows the fictional team of the NCIS Major Case Response Team (MCRT) special agents based at the Washington D.C. field office in Washington Navy Yard, at Washington D.C.
The NCIS is the primary law enforcement and counter-intelligence of the US Department of Navy, which includes the US Marine Corps.
NCIS investigates all major criminal offenses and felonies punishable under the Uniform Code of Military Justice by confinement of more than one year within the Department of Navy.
