‘NCIS’ Season 13 Will See the Jeff Goldblum of Naval Surgeons Saving Leroy Gibbs from His Gunshot Wounds

During the Season 12 finale of the American police procedural drama TV series “NCIS” on CBS, the life of NCIS leader Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by actor Mark Harmon, lied on the brink after he was shot twice by Luke, one on his leg and one on his chest.

Many of the fans were actually wondering whether Gibbs will survive the ordeal or not but when Mark Harmon signed a contract extension for the full Season 13, everyone knew that the NCIS leader is going to live and fight another day.

As to who will save Gibbs from the obvious physical peril, the Inquisitr actually revealed a possible answer when it reported that actor Jon Cryer will be coming in as a guest star in Season 13 of the “NCIS” on its premiere episode to air on September 22,

Jon Cryer will take on the role of Dr. Taft, whom the actor describes as the Jeff Goldblum of naval surgeons. He added that Dr. Taft is also a bit of a wiseass and likes to joke a lot even in the operating room.

Cryer also added that his character is also looking forward to nurturing his relationship with Gibbs since Dr. Taft is not the kind of guy that Gibbs usually takes to. He also hinted that the first three episodes of “NCIS” Season 13 will deal with Gibbs’ recovery and he will be there.

The actor also intimated that he has long wanted to play as a guest star in the TV series. But his role was to be one of the murder victims who shall end up on Ducky’s table in the morgue.

And as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait. Now, Cryer will be happy to note that his guesting will not just be via a lone episode but actually three consecutive episodes. Still, he would like to be a murder victim in the future episode of the show.

An officer-in-charge

Agent Anthony ‘Tony’ DiNozzo, portrayed by Michael Weatherly, will be taking over the job of Gibbs as NCIS leader while the latter is recovering from his injuries.

DiNozzo and CIA Officer Joanna Teague, played by Mimi Rogers, will continue their search for the terrorist group, known as The Calling, who also put Gibbs’ life in danger and also killing their colleague Dorneget, details Christian Today.

It was also rumored that Mike Franks, played by Muse Watson, the former NCIS leader before Gibbs, will return on Season 13. Franks was the unit leader when it was part of the Naval Investigative Service (NIS), the predecessor agency of the NCIS. It was Franks who also recruited Gibbs shortly after the latter retired from the US Marine Corps.

Likely to escape death

The series finale of Season 12 of “NCIS” saw NCIS Supervisory Special Agent Gibbs along with Senior Special Agent DiNozzo and CIA Officer Teague, tracked Luke to Zakho, Iraq where he was being held under the protection of the kid-targeting terrorist group known as The Calling.

Gibbs eventually split from the two to follow a suspicious girl through the marketplace. The girl gave him the slip and Gibbs got left out in the open. Subsequently, Luke shot the NCIS leader twice – first on the leg and then in the chest, before leaving him to die as the show draws to a close with that biggest cliffhanger ever.

Of course, every fan of the show is optimistic that Gibbs will survive the near-death ordeal and live to fight another day.
