‘NCIS’ Season 13 to See Gibbs Changing Because of His Near-Death Experience!

Season 13 of the American police procedural drama TV series “NCIS” will premiere on CBS on September 22 and every fan of the show knows that NCIS leader Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon, will survive his near-death experience after getting shot twice by Luke of The Calling during the Season 12 finale – one in the leg and one in the chest.

While there have been plenty of plotlines and subplots that made it to the internet about the upcoming 13th season of “NCIS,” only show executive producer Gary Glasberg was the one who said that the traumatic experience that Gibbs had gone through in the Season 12 finale will change him.

Glasberg made the disclosure in a recent interview where he confirmed that Gibbs will start Season 13 recovering from his near-death experience.

The showrunner said that the things that he had gone through will present Gibbs a new perspective and change him. Glasberg said that the whole first half of Season 13 of “NCIS” will see Gibbs going through an emotional roller coaster ride during his surgery with a new character, notes the Christian Post.

Glasberg did not disclose who the character would be, but it could be Dr. Taft, to be played by Jon Cryer. Cryer describes his guest character in “NCIS” as the Jeff Goldblum of naval surgeons. He added that Dr. Taft is also a bit of a wiseass and likes to joke a lot even in the operating room.

More surprises from the past

The showrunner also said that before Gibbs can fully recover, he will be seen coming in and out of consciousness after his surgery. He will also have his share of hallucinations that will also include his late colleague Mike Franks.

Glasberg confirmed that Season 13 of “NCIS” will also bring back some past characters, not just through flashbacks or hallucinations by Gibbs, but also in reality. He also hinted that a character from the past will return on the second episode to share information about the past of Gibbs.

The executive producer also confirmed that the show will pick up where it left off in Season 12 finale.

He said that the traumatic experience will affect Gibbs emotionally, psychologically, and physically that the change will trickle down to the rest of his NCIS team. Glasberg said that there will be plenty of emotional stuff that is going to go on between the NCIS team members during the entire Season 13, details The Hollywood Reporter.

Subverting viewer expectations

Based on the show trailer released by CBS recently, Gibbs will even be hallucinating about his dead daughter while everybody in the NCIS team from Special Agent Anthony ‘Tony’ DiNozzo, played by Michael Weatherly, scamper to ensure that their boss survives the ordeal, as he is taken to surgery.

After taking Gibbs to the Navy hospital ship and undergoing operations, Agent DiNozzo and CIA Officer Joanna Teague, played by Mimi Rogers, will travel to Shanghai and get some payback by attempting to take down The Calling.

ncis season 13

In a recent interview, Michael Weatherly said that the NCIS team will be going to blow shit up on Season 13, not just the real explosion stuff but also some of the major characters in the TV series.

He added that the series will actually subvert viewer expectations and he thinks that Season 13 of “NCIS” will be the year when fans and viewers of the show will get uncomfortable about the storyline and some of the characters of the series.
