“NCIS” had an interesting surprise for its fans recently, as one of the new episodes of the show was about a search for a missing person, the brother of a high-ranking Navy soldier who needed a transplant from his relative to avoid dying. And while the team was unable to find out anything about the brother at first, there was eventually a suitable replacement for him and the Lieutenant got his much-needed bone marrow transplant.
That did not happen without some trouble though, as the person who donated the bone marrow wanted something in return – his freedom. He was a prisoner on a life sentence, and unfortunately nobody was able to get his wish granted and free him from prison. Surprisingly, he ended up agreeing to the donation anyway as he still wanted to help out despite being cut out from the original deal. Plus, he did get another smaller deal which would grant him the possibility of parole in several decades, so at least he ended up in a slightly better situation than before.
When the missing brother was discovered however, he turned out to be someone a bit more special than the team was expecting – he was actually an FBI informant working from the inside of a criminal organization, something which not many people were probably expecting as an outcome of this storyline.
The episode also had some more emotional moments for its characters and the writers tried to move the story forward in terms of the relationships between some of them, particularly when it came to Ellie and Jake. Ellie was definitely not alone in that situation though, and even though she had to swallow quite a lot when she realized that Jake had betrayed her, she seems to be coping somewhat well.
Reviews of the episode were mostly positive, and critics praised the simplified nature of some particular storylines, claiming that it contributed a lot to making the episode more accessible in light of what was going on. The stories themselves were interesting enough to keep viewers watching until the end, and the episode also spawned some interesting discussions on the Internet after it concluded. Even though the show has been around for a while, it’s obvious that its producers still know exactly what their fans want to see, and they are always ready to deliver with the right kinds of exciting developments.
What could be coming up in the next episodes, now that we’ve seen this one? The current season of the show has been going in an interesting direction, as it seems like the producers are trying to focus a bit more on the emotional aspect of things, and there has been slightly less focus on the actual crime solving and other similar elements. At the same time, fans seem happy with this current situation as many people apparently believe that the show could use some more deepening of its characters.
Hopefully that won’t come at the price of extra conflicts between those characters however, as that’s always an easy way to shake things up, and the producers of this particular show are no strangers to this idea either. We don’t know if they are planning to introduce any more serious and dramatic elements to the story, but we certainly wouldn’t be surprised if they had something big planned for the end of the season. At this point, the show needs to do some more unusual things in order to stay relevant, as it’s been around for quite a while.
