‘NBA 2K16’ Pays Tribute to Stephen Curry Winning an MVP for the Second Consecutive NBA Season!

Except perhaps for LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers, nobody was complaining that Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry was awarded last week by the NBA as the league’s Most Valuable Player for the 2015-16 season.

It came out as back-to-back MVP title for Curry, and he became only the third active NBA player to score consecutive regular season MVP plums next only to Tim Duncan and LeBron James, who already did it twice.

In order to toast the honor that was given to one of its cover players, the developers of the basketball simulation video game “NBA 2K16” have decided to pay tribute to the digital version of Stephen Curry.

On May 12, 2K Sports, in cooperation with Under Armour, announced that they have maxed out Stephen Curry’s rating on “NBA 2K16” for 30 hours, which meant that any player who used the NBA repeat MVP on the game would make his shot regardless of distance, reports Sports Illustrated.

Some “NBA 2K16” gamers just loved the bonus that the developers had given them that one player even had his Stephen Curry playable character scoring 200 points in one game.

Breaking the game

The decision of 2K Sports and Under Armour to give a 99 overall rating to Stephen Curry was meant to break the game in honor of the second straight MVP season of the Warriors prolific point guard.

The May 12 update made Curry the highest shooter ever in the game and it also unlocked a new colorway for Curry’s sneaker known as the Curry Two.

The special Curry privilege on “NBA 2K16” officially began at 3 PM on May 12 and lasted at 6 PM on May 13, which is a full 30 hours of Curry-centric gaming. That was also in reference to his jersey number, notes Design & Trend.

While Curry has been great and quite healthy during the regular season, he was not as healthy in the ongoing NBA playoffs. He missed two games during the Western Conference first round encounter between the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets and missed three games during the Western Conference second round battle with the Portland Trailblazers.

In both rounds, the Warriors eliminated their opponents in five games with Stephen Curry making that historic 17-point Overtime performance in Game 4 against the Blazers that took the sting out of the young Portland team.

Playoff roster update

At the start of the NBA playoffs last month, game developer 2K Sports released a small roster update focusing on the players whose teams made it into the playoffs.

After being bestowed the Defensive Player of the Year award, San Antonio Spurs’ forward Kawhi Leonard received a one-point increase in his overall rating and brought it to 93 overall.

Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers also got a one-point increment and is now toting a 92 rating overall.

Other players who received an increase of one point in their rating are Dwyane Wade and Hassan Whiteside of the Miami Heat, La Marcus Aldridge of the San Antonio Spurs, Al Jefferson of the Charlotte Hornets, and Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Two players of the Atlanta Hawks got two-point increments in Paul Millsap and Jeff Teague.

Meanwhile, seven players got a one-point decrease in their ratings and they are Blake Griffin of the LA Clippers, Raymond Felton of the Dallas Mavericks, Kemba Walker of the Charlotte Hornets, Jae Crowder of the Boston Celtics, Nicolas Batum of Charlotte Hornets, Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs, and Zach Randolph of the Memphis Grizzlies.

The roster update also contained accessory and team color changes.

While the NBA 2016-17 season is still months away, 2K Sports has already revealed early last month the cover for the upcoming iteration of the basketball simulation video game “NBA 2K17.”

The cover shall have the Black Mamba, Kobe Bryant, who just played his last game and retired from the NBA early last month.
