It must be a strategy of 2K Games to further promote the basketball simulation video game “NBA 2K16” now that the NBA competition is on its penultimate phase with Game 5 of the NBA Finals happening on June 13 which can possibly be the final game of the year should the Golden State Warriors win against the Cleveland Cavaliers and cop the title back-to-back.
Or it could also be a promo to drumbeat the coming of “NBA 2K17” in the fall of this year, but the “NBA 2K16” is being made as one of the two free games to be offered on the PlayStation 4 this month as part of the privilege of being a PlayStation Plus subscriber, reports the Christian Today.
Every month, PlayStation Plus subscribers actually get six free titles, with two free games given to each of Sony’s latest gaming consoles including the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 3, and the PS Vita.
Apart from the “NBA 2K16,” the other free game this June on the PlayStation 4 for PlayStation Plus subscribers is “Gone Home.”
“NBA 2K16” has always been one of the most sought-after games for sports fans because of the huge amount of content that it has. PlayStation 4 gamers shall be able to play the game regardless of whether they are connected or not to the internet.
Zero choices on MyCareer
The MyCareer mode of “NBA 2K16” has been directed by renowned director and actor Spike Lee, who is an avid New York Knicks fan.
About this time last year, the hype was saying that the MyCareer mode of “NBA 2K16” is going to be a game-changer but when the game finally rolled out to the PC and the gaming consoles in September last year, the feature fell below fan expectations.
Just the title of the gameplay mode “Livin’ Da Dream” was already a bad choice that critics already feasted on it right on the get-go.
But the most disappointing thing for the gamers and the critics about “Livin’ Da Dream” is the zero choices to be made by players who decide to take on the mode.
The mode is basically a movie which does not provide gamers choices except in selecting what high school they should go to or which college they would take to be able to reach the NBA, notes the Rolling Stone.
In the “NBA 2K16” MyCareer mode, gamers have to watch themselves making the worst possible choice in every situation, which is also the reason why many players have shunned away from playing the mode.
It would be interesting to find out if 2K Games has picked up the neat lesson in taking a critically-acclaimed director in putting a movie inside a video game. In fact, many are saying that the developer may decide to go back to the usual MyCareer mode that was featured on “NBA 2K15” and back for the upcoming “NBA 2K17.”
Getting intense promotions
Since late last month, “NBA 2K16” got major promotions without 2K Games doing anything fantastic about it because of the intense Western Conference finals that pitted the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder that went all the way to Game 7..
At that time, the Eastern Conference already has a familiar NBA Finals contender in LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers who was just waiting, at that time, on who they will face for the 2015-16 NBA title.
So when the NBA Finals began on June 2, the attention on “NBA 2K16” further heightened as fans of both the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers started pitting the two teams every time they play the video game.
Microsoft has actually offered Xbox Live Gold members on its gaming console, the Xbox One, to try out “NBA 2K16” for free during the last week of May.
Those who availed of the promo offer from Microsoft were also able to play the new 2K Pro-Am game mode that features fully customizable tournaments.
